  • Patent number: 11416607
Abstract: A method may include determining a configuration of one or more basic input/output system (BIOS) settings identified as influencing security at an information handling system. The method may further include determining a security risk score based on the configuration, and generating a security gauge image that provides a visual indication of the security risk score. The security gauge image may be displayed during BIOS initialization at the information handling system.

  • Publication number: 20080036468
Abstract: An apparatus and associated method are disclosed for facilitating the testing of device connections, including functional shock and vibration testing of peripheral card slots or any other desired connector interface. In part, a power supply located on the peripheral device, or some other external power source, is used to power fault detection circuitry. In this way, faults can be identified, such as through visual fault indicators, without the necessity of powering the system. In addition, simulated peripheral cards are provided that include adjustable weights so that the weight distribution of an actual card can be simulated without the necessity of having a functional peripheral in hand.

  • Publication number: 20070124571
Abstract: Information handling system audio jack tasks are selectively set by an end user through an audio driver jack retasker that associates each of plural audio jacks with one of plural tasks in a jack task table. For example, a WINDOWS operating system having a UAA class driver supports jack retasking by providing end user access to UAA jack task tables stored in system BIOS. Audio jacks are selectively retasked between audio tasks, such as microphone signal in or headphone speaker out, and other tasks, such as line in or line out functions.

  • Publication number: 20070061262
Abstract: Portable music devices are manufactured prepopulated with songs selected by the users who placed orders for the devices so that the devices are delivered to the users ready to play the songs selected by the users. An order engine interfaced with the Internet provides users with song titles based on a variety of factors, such as music genre type, music popularity and demographic information associated with an end user of the device. A copy engine copies songs selected by the user to the portable music device before shipment of the device to the end user. In one embodiment, songs are copied based on proof of rights by a user to the use of the songs, such as through proof of ownership of a CD having the songs or through interaction with a digital rights management server.

  • Publication number: 20060271804
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for controlling delivery of electrical power to a circuit board in an information handling system. A power management system is operable to detect an expansion circuit board that is operably coupled to a main system board of an information handling system. The power management subsystem detects the status of a cooling system associated with the expansion circuit board and is operable to control the amount of power delivered to the expansion circuit board based on the status of the cooling system.

  • Publication number: 20060245581
Abstract: The configuration of active jacks at an information handling system is sensed by temporarily diverting an analog-to-digital converter from a primary function upon detection of a change of the configuration of active jacks. A jack sense circuit outputs a unique voltage for each configuration of jacks, such as with a resistor tree. A change in the jack sense voltage generates an interrupt by a jack sense interrupt, which communicates the interrupt to a multiplexer. The multiplexer temporarily interfaces the jack sense output voltage with the analog-to-digital converter to have the jack sense output voltage converted to digital information that identifies the jack configuration. After detection of the jack configuration, the multiplexer returns the analog-to-digital converter to its primary function, such as converting analog microphone signals to digital information.

  • Publication number: 20050128700
Abstract: An information handling system cooling fan operating curve is automatically selected for use by a cooling fan controller by detecting the configuration of the information handling system and looking up cooling fan operating parameters from a table associated with the information handling system. For instance, central processing unit identification information is used to select associated cooling fan operating parameters so that adequate cooling is available to meet system cooling constraints for the heat characteristics of the central processing unit with reduced acoustic impact associated with operation of the information handling system.
