  • Patent number: 9497567
Abstract: Techniques for facilitating the activation or establishing of a data session between an M2M device and a service provider external to the wireless communications network serving the M2M device are disclosed. In an example method, a trigger message is received from the service provider, the trigger message including an external identifier for the wireless device. An internal network identifier for the wireless device and an associated data network identifier are identified, based on the external identifier. The internal network identifier and the data network identifier are then forwarded towards the wireless device, for use by the wireless device in activating or selecting a data session. The data network identifier may include an APN, or an NSAPI, or both, in some embodiments. The disclosed techniques are particularly useful in the context of wireless devices having subscriptions to more than one M2M service provider.

  • Patent number: 9451594
Abstract: The teachings herein disclose methods and apparatuses for automatically binding external identifiers to service provider network identifiers. The external identifiers are allocated by an access network for use by a service provider network in identifying given wireless devices to the access network, where the service provider network is external to the access network. The service provider network identifiers are used to identify those same wireless devices within the service provider network, with respect to one or more services. The binding thus enables the service provider network to trigger communications with a targeted wireless device via the access network, by using the external identifier that is bound to the service provider network identifier of the targeted device, and sending trigger signaling to the access network that identifies the targeted wireless device via the external identifier.

  • Patent number: 9445399
Abstract: An access network sends allocation information to an external service provider network (SPN), responsive to a wireless device establishing a data session with the access network for communicating with the SPN. The allocation information indicates the Internet Protocol (IP) address assigned to the wireless device by the access network for the data session and an external identifier to be used by the SPN in identifying the wireless device to the access network. Subsequently, the SPN receives a service provider network identifier and point of contact information in signaling sent from the wireless device, and binds the service provider network identifier to the external identifier that is associated with the IP address indicated in the point of contact information. This binding enables the SPN to trigger communications targeting the service provider network identifier of the wireless device, by sending triggering signaling to the access network that includes the bound external identifier.

  • Patent number: 9253621
Abstract: According to one aspect of the teachings herein, a token is logically bound to an external identifier and provided to a wireless device via triggering signaling sent to the wireless device through an access network. The wireless device is configured to send registration signaling through the access network to a service provider network, in response to the triggering signaling and to return the token in such signaling. With this advantageous approach, the service provider network recognizes the token returned from the wireless device and thereby learns the association between a service provider network identifier that is received in the registration signaling for identifying the wireless device with respect to a service provided by the service provider network, and an external identifier assigned by the access network for use by the service provider network in identifying the wireless device to the access network.

  • Patent number: 9154360
Abstract: The present invention relates to telecommunication systems providing multiple services which could require possible adaptations based on the capabilities of the terminal used to access those services. Master databases in the telecommunication system take the responsibility to map between terminal and user identifiers. Applications and services are thus able to query terminal related capability information based on a user identity. In accordance with the invention, a Terminal Capabilities database (TC-DB) is introduced in order to establish a temporary relationship between a user and a terminal operated by such user. When a user attaches to the network, a terminal identifier is sent to the network that forwards that identity to the TC-DB. For retrieval of terminal capabilities the application servers send a request message to the TC-DB by using the user identity as a correlating key.

  • Patent number: 9094790
Abstract: Techniques for automatically transferring an external identifier for a wireless device from a wireless communication network serving the wireless device to a service provider external to the wireless communication network are disclosed. In an example method, carried out in one or more nodes of the wireless communication network, a binding between the external identifier and an internal identifier for the wireless device is maintained. A data session for the wireless device and corresponding to the service provider is established, wherein said establishing includes an assignment of an IP address to the wireless device. A request for the external identifier is received from the service provider, said request including the IP address for the wireless device. The external identifier is then sent to the service provider, in response to the request.

  • Patent number: 8745182
Abstract: The present invention is aimed to provide a mechanism whereby a Public Service Identity identifying a service, which runs in an application service, may be created in a network both dynamically by the application server and statically by an O & M system, the means and method for the dynamic creation harmonizing with those for the static creation, and allowing a similar behavior of the network with minimum impact when the service is invoked. Therefore, the present invention provides a new method, a new central entity in the network, and enhanced Home Subscriber Server and application server, all co-operating to carry out the different embodiments for the invention.
