  • Publication number: 20100263841
Abstract: Methods and a system for shielding cooling tubes in a radiant syngas cooler. The heat shields may prevent direct contact between heated syngas and the cooling tubes. The heat shield may be mounted to a header that also attaches to the cooling tubes. The heat shield may also be separated from the cooling tubes or, alternatively, the heat shield may be coated onto the cooling tubes. Furthermore, prolonged exposure to the heated syngas may corrode the heat shield.

  • Publication number: 20100101203
Abstract: A feed injector for providing feed to a gasifier of an integrated gasification combined cycle system includes: a base leading to a body and terminating in a tip, the tip including an exitway for injecting feed into the gasifier; the tip including a mating of an inner shell disposed within a core insert, with an outer shell in which the core insert is disposed; a plurality of spacers disposed between the core insert and inner shell thus providing an inner annular space, and another plurality of spacers disposed between the core insert and outer shell thus providing an outer annular space; the inner annular space and the outer annular space being in fluid communication at the tip and providing for a flow of coolant from the base to the tip and back to the base. A method of fabrication and an integrated gasification combined cycle power plant are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20090202403
Abstract: A method of assembling a synthesis gas (syngas) cooler for a gasification system includes positioning a dip tube within a shell of the syngas cooler. The dip tube is configured to quench the syngas flowing through the shell and/or at least partially channel the syngas through the dip tube. The method also includes coupling an isolation tube to the dip tube such that the isolation tube is substantially concentrically aligned with, and radially outward of, the dip tube. The isolation tube is coupled in flow communication with a purge gas source and is configured to at least partially form a dynamic pressure seal. The method further includes coupling at least one of the isolation tube and the dip tube in fluid communication with a fluid retention chamber. The method also include at least partially filling the fluid retention chamber with fluid, thereby further forming the dynamic pressure seal.

  • Publication number: 20090199474
Abstract: A method of assembling a spray quench apparatus is provided. The method includes coupling a first end of an exit tube to a quench chamber such that the exit tube end is in flow communication with the quench chamber, coupling at least one spray nozzle to an opposite second end of the exit tube such that water emitted from the spray nozzle fills the exit tube and forms a film of water across an inner surface of the exit tube, coupling a water source to the quench chamber for providing a substantially continuous water film along an inner surface of the quench chamber, and coupling at least one discharge apparatus to the quench chamber for providing water spray into the quench chamber, wherein the water of the water film and water sprays drains into a water sump.

  • Publication number: 20090173484
Abstract: Methods and systems for a vessel preheating system are provided. The system includes a pressure vessel including an area of excess heat and an area of deficient heat, a plenum defined between the area of excess heat and the area of deficient heat, and a conduit configured to couple a flow of purge fluid from external to the vessel into the plenum wherein heat from the area of excess heat is transferred to the flow of purge fluid in the plenum and the heat is carried by the flow of purge fluid into the area of deficient heat such that the flow of purge fluid purges the area of deficient heat.

  • Patent number: 6976834
Abstract: A pelletizing die includes a pelletizing die member with a die exit side exposed to cooling fluid and a die entry side for receiving polymer fed thereto. The die member has a plurality of polymer channels and a plurality of extrusion orifices connected to a respective one of the channels to form a extrusion orifice section. A heating medium system has additional heating medium conduits between channels and a supply and intermediate header for heating the channels (radially from each side) and providing once in and once out heating medium flow. The die member may be formed by high temperature brazing of components using coordinated solder (Ni based or gold-nickel) and component heat treatment temperature. A thin hard face coating may be provided on raised extrusion orifice ring faces around each extrusion orifice section.

  • Patent number: 6848639
Abstract: A cutting blade includes a connection portion for connection to a cutting head for rotating the blade, preferably in association with other blades being rotated with the cutting head. The blade body also includes a blade body portion with a leading edge with a cutting blade portion and an upper leading surface and lower leading surface extending from the leading edge to an upper transition zone and lower transition zone respectively. A upper trailing surface extends from the upper transition zone to a trailing edge and a lower trailing surface extends from the lower transition zone to the trailing edge. The upper and lower trailing surfaces converge such that the blade body portion is hydrodynamically shaped. According to a further embodiment, the cutting blade has a sickle shape.

  • Patent number: 6845813
Abstract: A flow distributor for mounting in an inlet of a heat exchanger includes a nose cone and one or more diverting rings. The nose cone is aerodynamically shaped to divert impingent gas flow around the nose cone. A first diverting ring is spaced outwardly from the nose cone and can be oriented such that at least a portion of the gas flow diverted by the nose cone is redirected into the wake of the nose cone. A second diverting ring can be spaced outwardly from the first diverting ring and can be oriented to divert gas flow impingent thereon. Struts connect the nose cone and one or more rings. Refractory on the wall of the inlet is shaped to reduce the recirculation at the outer perimeter thereof. The flow distributor is installed in the inlet with refractory to achieve substantially equal flow across the tube sheet of the heat exchanger.
