  • Publication number: 20120121202
Abstract: A sharp frame and a blurred frame are detected from among a plurality of frames. A blur kernel is estimated. The blur kernel represents a motion-transform between the sharp frame and the blurred frame. Using the blur kernel, a static region measure for the sharp frame and the blurred frame is estimated. A de-blurred frame is generated by replacing one or more pixels of the blurred frame as indicated by the static region measure.

  • Patent number: 8175379
Abstract: A method, system, and computer-readable storage medium for automatic segmentation of a video sequence. A segmentation shape prediction and a segmentation color model are determined for a current image of a video sequence based on existing segmentation information for at least one previous image of the video sequence. A segmentation of the current image is automatically generated based on a weighted combination of the segmentation shape prediction and the segmentation color model. The segmentation of the current image is stored in a memory medium.

  • Patent number: 8175384
Abstract: Method and apparatus for creating foreground masks, or mattes, in images including complex images. A discriminative matting technique may generate accurate alpha mattes for textured images or objects with spatial-varying color distributions. Given an input image and a trimap defining an unknown region, a discriminative color analysis is applied to the unknown region, yielding estimated alpha values, estimated binary segmentation values, and a mixture probability map for the region. The map may be adaptively smoothed. The pixels in the unknown region are classified into boundary pixels and non-boundary pixels according to the probability map. The non-boundary pixels are classified as either foreground or background pixels using a differencing technique that compares multiple pixel features. The estimated alpha values for the boundary pixels are refined. An alpha matte for the image is output. The process may be repeated until convergence of the alpha matte.

  • Patent number: 8169705
Abstract: The invention is directed to optical elements that are coated with dense homogeneous fluoride films and to a method of making such coated elements. The coatings materials are a high (“H”) refractive index fluoride material and a low (“L”) refractive index material that are co-evaporated to form a coating layer of a L-H coating material (a co-deposited coating of L and H materials). Lanthanide metal fluorides (for example, neodymium, lanthanum, dysprosium, yttrium and gadolinium, and combinations thereof) are preferred metal fluorides for use as the high refractive index materials with lanthanum fluoride (LaF3) and gadolinium fluoride (GdF3) being particularly preferred. Aluminum fluoride (AlF3) and alkaline earth metal fluorides (fluorides of calcium, magnesium, barium and strontium) are the preferred low refractive index materials, with magnesium fluoride (MgF2) being a preferred alkaline earth metal fluoride.

  • Publication number: 20120101262
Abstract: The invention provides methods for a purifying protein of interest from a mixture comprising the protein of interest and one or more contaminants, including host cell DNA and proteins, by precipitation of the contaminants with caprylic acid. Such methods are particularly useful for purifying antibodies from cell cultures. Moreover, mixtures that have been depleted of contaminants using the methods of the invention can be used directly in downstream chromatography applications (e.g., ion exchange chromatography) without any further purification. These methods lead to manufacturing processes with a minimum number of unit operations and reduce the resource requirements, and thus positively influence the cost of goods for therapeutic protein production.

  • Patent number: 8154334
Abstract: An apparatus comprises a voltage regulator including an high side switching transistor and a low side switching transistor. An high side drive controls operation of the high side switching transistor. A low side driver controls operation of the low side switching transistor. A bootstrap capacitor provides an operating voltage to the high side switching driver. The bootstrap capacitor is charged to a predetermined level responsive to a supply voltage. A low side driver drives the low side switching transistor according to a process that charges the bootstrap capacitor to the predetermined level. The process turns on the low side switching transistor for a first predetermined number of cycles and turns off the low side switching transistor for a second predetermined number of cycles. The process is repeated for a predetermined number of times during startup of the voltage regulator when a prebias load is applied to the voltage regulator.

  • Publication number: 20110264659
Abstract: A method and system for propagating the relevance of labeled documents to a query to unlabeled documents is provided. The propagation system provides training data that includes queries, documents labeled with their relevance to the queries, and unlabeled documents. The propagation system then calculates the similarity between pairs of documents in the training data. The propagation system then propagates the relevance of the labeled documents to similar, but unlabeled, documents. The propagation system may iteratively propagate labels of the documents until the labels converge on a solution. The training data with the propagated relevances can then be used to train a ranking function.
