  • Patent number: 7727798
Abstract: Method for production of diamond-like carbon film having semiconducting properties comprises preparing a boron-doped diamond-like carbon (B-DLC) thin film on a silicon substrate through a radio frequency magnetron sputtering process, wherein a composite target material formed by inserting boron tablet as a dopant source in a graphite target is used. After forming a boron-containing diamond-like carbon film, the thin film is annealed at a temperature of 500° C. and kept at this temperature for 10 minutes, and determine its carrier concentration and resistivity. Thus demonstrated that the polarity of said boron-doped diamond-like carbon film is p-type semiconductor characteristic. Carrier concentration can be up to 1.3×1018 cm-3, and its resistivity is about 0.6 ?-cm; consequently.

  • Patent number: 7659920
Abstract: A real-time low frame-rate video compression system and method that allows the user to perform face-to-face communication through an extremely low bandwidth network. The system and method employs image cropping and morphing to reduce frame rates. At the encoder side, the system is able to automatically select only a few good faces from the original sequence with high visual quality and compress and transmit them. At the decoder side, the system use image-morphing based rendering method to generate a normal frame-rate video. Experimental results show that the system is superior to more traditional video codecs for low bit-rate face-to-face communication.

  • Publication number: 20100027876
Abstract: A system and method for expansion and reduction of images uses an absolute value associated with each pixel of an input image (e.g., a color and/or intensity value) to determine a respective energy value for each pixel. For example, a given color or range of colors (e.g., skin tones, or other high-priority colors) may be assigned higher energy values than other colors and/or color ranges, and may be protected during image reduction and/or expansion. These energy values may be used to determine a cost associated with various seams of the image, which may represent the priority of the seams in the image. One or more low-cost seams may be identified for removal or replication to produce a resized image. The methods may be used in conjunction with an automated skin tone detector or a user interface that allows selection of one or more high priority colors or color ranges.
