  • Publication number: 20080319184
Abstract: The present invention provides the use of analogues and derivatives of dinucleoside polyphosphates with formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, in the manufacture of a medicament for use in one or more of: the treatment of ischemia, inducing ischemic tolerance, modulating cerebral ischemia, to delay the onset of a hypoxic depolarisation stage when ischemic events are initiated; as a neurological protection agent; as a tissue protection agent; the treatment of pain; and the treatment of inflammation, wherein X, is selected from wherein X1 and X2 are independently selected from H, Cl, Br and F; each Y is independently selected from S and O; each Z is independently selected from —CX3X4—,—NH—,—O—; wherein X3 and X4 are selected from H, Cl, Br and F; B1 and B2 are independently selected from adenine, guanine, xanthine, thymine, uracil, cytosine and inosine; S1 and S2 are independently selected from ribose, open chain ribose, 2?-deoxyribose, 3?deoxyribose and arabinofuranoside.

  • Patent number: 7214940
Abstract: An apparatus for investigating a sample comprising a source of a beam of radiation, a detector for detecting a beam of radiation reflected by or transmitted through a sample to be imaged, an optical subsystem for manipulating the beam between the source and detector and means for translating the optical subsystem along a first translation axis relative to the source and detector to scan the beam across the sample, wherein the source and the detector are on opposite sides of the subsystem and the beam from the source and the beam reflected or transmitted each enter and exit the subsystem in a direction parallel to the first direction of translation. The apparatus is also suitable for maintaining the relative phase of two beams of radiation, during translation of an optical subsystem.

  • Patent number: 6871173
Abstract: A method and apparatus for handling masked exceptions that receives an exception from the operating system on which an emulator is running a user program and determines the origin of the exception. If the emulator generated the exception, the emulator handles the exception internally and returns it to the operating system. If the emulated user program generated the exception, the emulator checks the status of the exception type. If that type of exception is blocked, the exception is marked as deferred. Otherwise, the exception is delivered to the user application or marked as pending for later delivery. The system and method can maintain a virtual exception mask to indicate the status of the exception type.

  • Publication number: 20040142342
Abstract: The invention concerns a wide range of diseases and conditions, including cancers. The invention provides a probe for detection of such a disease or condition. The probe is able to distinguish between functional P2X7 receptors and non-functional P2X7 receptors. The probe can do this in various ways, one of which is detecting change in relation to binding of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to the receptors.

  • Publication number: 20040067967
Abstract: The invention provides a pharmaceutical composition for treatment or prevention of urinary dysfunction in a mammal. The composition includes a pharmaceutically effective amount of one or more substances capable of enabling the bladder of the mammal to mimic conditions found in advanced pregnancy. Alternately, the pharmaceutical composition has a pharmaceutically effective amount of one or more substances adapted to regulate the expression of one or more ATPases that control the supply of ATP to P2X receptors in the bladder of the mammal. In one aspect, the pharmaceutical composition may downregulate expression of subtype receptors P2X1, P2X2, P2X3 and P2X5, possibly upregulating expression of subtype receptors P2X4 and P2X6.
