  • Patent number: 10808958
Abstract: A thermostat includes a housing, a touch-sensitive display configured to display visual media and receive user inputs, and processing electronics configured to operate the touch-sensitive display. The housing includes a base and a display mount. The base includes a top wall, a bottom wall, a front wall connecting the top wall to the bottom wall, a first side wall connecting the top wall to the bottom wall, and a second side wall connecting the top wall to the bottom wall. The top wall, the bottom wall, the first side wall, and the second side wall define an internal volume. The display mount is cantilevered away from the top wall and includes a mounting surface. The display is attached to the mounting surface. The processing electronics are positioned within the interior volume.

  • Patent number: 9939619
Abstract: A panoramic optical device includes a quadric reflector, a mirror, and a set of one or more optical elements. The quadric reflector has a conical shape, which tapers from a wide base to an apex. The apex includes an aperture. The mirror is positioned within the device in a plane approximately parallel to a circular cross section of the conical shape. The mirror reflects environmental light that is reflected by the quadric reflector into the aperture or reflecting light emitting from the aperture onto the quadric reflector. The set of one or more optical elements are positioned at least partially within a volumetric region of the quadric reflector. The one or more optical elements focus light passing through the aperture.

  • Patent number: 9810887
Abstract: A quadric reflector can have an approximately conical shape. The shape can tapers from a wide base to an apex. The apex can include an aperture, a mirror, and a set of one or more optical elements. A mirror can be positioned within an overhang enclosure of the device in a plane approximately parallel to a circular cross section of the conical shape. The mirror can reflect environmental light that is reflected by the quadric reflector into the aperture or reflect light emitting from the aperture onto the quadric reflector. The overhang enclosure can have a substantially conical shape which eliminates secondary reflection resulting from the environmental light reaching the aperture twice. Using the overhang enclosure to absorb the secondary reflection eliminates or minimizes banding.

  • Patent number: 9793595
Abstract: A transparent metal mesh is used as an antenna element and is disposed over a graphical display so that the graphical display can be seen through the transparent metal mesh. A radio circuit is coupled to the metal mesh to receive radio signals using the transparent metal mesh. In some embodiments the radio circuit can also transmit signals using the transparent metal mesh as an antenna.

  • Publication number: 20160327299
Abstract: A thermostat includes a housing having a base, a display mount cantilevered from the base, and a case defining an interior volume extending between a front surface and a rear surface, a touch-sensitive display configured to display visual media and receive user inputs, wherein the touch-sensitive display is attached to the display mount, processing electronics on a circuit board positioned at least partially within the interior volume of the case, wherein the processing electronics are configured to operate the touch-sensitive display, and a mounting bracket configured to attach to a mounting location, wherein the mounting bracket includes a frame defining an aperture and the case extends through the aperture so that the frame is located between the front and rear surfaces of the case.

  • Patent number: 9444945
Abstract: A system of an alert puck, a mobile communication device, and an alert server for facilitating a VOIP session with the mobile communication device responsive to an emergency event triggered by the alert puck. The alert puck comprises a housing enclosing a sealed volume, a power supply and control circuitry that includes a personal area network (PAN) interface. The mobile communication device comprises an operating system, an alert application executing upon the operating system, and a wireless transceiver. The alert server contacts a set of one or more previously defined contact devices, conveys an emergency message, and facilitates the VOIP session with the alert application, when a button is pressed on the alert puck.
