  • Patent number: 6753422
Abstract: The invention includes kits and methods for assessing the susceptibility of a mammal such as a human for carcinogenesis. The methods comprise determining whether the mammal comprises a certain allele of the mammal's odc gene. The methods include use of a probe which binds specifically with a portion of one allele of the odc gene and which comprises a fluorescent label and a fluorescence quencher. The methods also include use of such a probe and a polymerase enzyme for amplifying a portion of the odc gene, the polymerase having exonuclease activity whereby the probe can be nucleolytically degraded.

  • Publication number: 20020106144
Abstract: A multiplexed analog control system for an micro electromechanical systems (MEMS) array of electrostatic actuators, such as tiltable mirrors in an optical switch. Each actuator includes a variable gap capacitor formed as part of the movable mechanical element. A hold capacitor is connected to each actuator capacitor, and a selectable high-voltage inverter connects them to provide a bipolar drive signal of 50% duty cycle. A single power digital controlled current source is connected to all the drive circuits to provide a high-power correction signal. Address decoders enable a selected one of the drive circuits to add or subtract the correction from the hold capacitor.

  • Patent number: 6117993
Abstract: The invention provides new reagents and processes for synthesizing oligonucleotides, including stereoselective oligonucleotide synthesis. In a first aspect, the invention provides novel monomer synthons for the synthesis of oligonucleotides. Monomer synthons according to this aspect of the invention are useful in the synthesis of oligonucleotides and can be used in place of the well known beta-cyanoethyl phosphoramidite monomer synthon in the phosphoramidite synthesis procedure. Certain monomer synthons according to this aspect of the invention are useful in this procedure for producing oligonucleotides having defined stereochemistry. In a second aspect, the invention provides processes for synthesizing monomer synthons according to the invention, including diastereomerically enriched or purified monomer synthons.
