  • Publication number: 20260178539
Abstract: To shorten the duration affecting the performance of a storage system, even when a consistency group including multiple journal groups is used, a first storage system performs journaling at least when data is written to a data volume. It defines at least one consistency group comprising several journal groups across multiple storage nodes. When the usage rate of any journal volume within these consistency groups exceeds a predetermined threshold, the system traces to identify the specific journal group to which the journal volume belongs and determines the associated consistency group. Subsequently, it identifies at least one journal volume within this consistency group and expands its capacity in bulk.

  • Publication number: 20250348213
Abstract: A management device manages one or more platforms, each having a storage device including one or more volumes, and stores: a policy table defining a policy concerning a volume as a resource and a copy policy concerning copy to define an operation of copying data to the resource; an operation origin table defining an operation origin in the platform where the operation is performed; and a state table for maintaining states of the operation origin. The processor extracts a combination of the resource and the operation from a combination of the policy concerning the volume and the policy concerning the copy. The processor identifies the operation origin from the combination of the resource and operation and determines whether the operation origin is normal, and determines whether the combination of the policies concerning the volume and the copy causes a failure on the operation origin determined to be abnormal.

  • Patent number: 12455797
Abstract: A system managing apparatus decides a time optimum for executing data copying from a copy source volume to a copy destination volume, and manages an RPO requirement of a user and a quiescing time period for each application at the time of a copy start. The system managing apparatus calculates a copy execution time and a copy execution interval such that data in which application consistency is maintained can be acquired at an interval that satisfies the RPO. In addition, the system managing apparatus monitors the use status of an application and the use status of a copy line after the start of copy operation, and calculates a copy execution time and a copy execution interval that allow a return to an appropriate recovery point, taking into consideration an application quiescing time period and a period of time required for copy completion that change in real time.

  • Publication number: 20250245038
Abstract: Dynamic establishment of polling periods for virtual machine switching operations is disclosed. An example of a process includes assigning a thread for a virtual machine (VM) to a virtual processor assigning the thread to a physical processor for processing; upon determining that the virtual processor is idle, dynamically determining a guest polling time value and performing polling of the virtual processor; and, upon receiving an interrupt prior to reaching the determined guest polling time value, returning the thread to processing. An example may further include receiving a VM exit at a virtual machine monitor (VMM); switching from the VM to VMM operation; dynamically determining a KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) polling time value for the thread and performing polling of the virtual processor; and, upon receiving an interrupt prior to reaching the determined KVM polling time value, returning the thread to processing.

  • Publication number: 20250208905
Abstract: Techniques for migration of a source protected virtual machine from a source platform to a destination platform are descried. A method of an aspect includes enforcing that bundles of state, of a first protected virtual machine (VM), received at a second platform over a stream, during an in-order phase of a migration of the first protected VM from a first platform to the second platform, are imported to a second protected VM of the second platform, in a same order that they were exported from the first protected VM. Receiving a marker over the stream marking an end of the in-order phase. Determining that all bundles of state exported from the first protected VM prior to export of the marker have been imported to the second protected VM. Starting an out-of-order phase of the migration based on the determination that said all bundles of the state exported have been imported.
