The photovoltaic structure comprises a light transmitting solid optical core having a longitudinal axis, a top end, a bottom end and one or more side walls, wherein the top end has an exposed outer surface to receive light. A photovoltaic layer surrounds at least a portion of one or more of the side walls of the optical core and an optical cladding layer surrounds the photovoltaic layer.

Abstract: A method of communication between a transmitter and a receiver over a channel is provided. The transmitter is capable of transmitting packets with multiple data rates, each of which adapts to a respective channel condition with regards to the performance of the communication. The method comprises the steps of at the level of the transmitter: upon detection of a disappearance of deterioration of the channel condition, transmitting packets with a data rate selected from a group of stable data rates that are stably used before the disappearance of the deterioration but larger than the last data rate before disappearance of the deterioration.

Abstract: A method for providing mosaic channels among multiple client devices is provided. Wherein, the multiple client devices are connected via a data communication network so as to be able to communicate data with each other. At the side of a client device, which is instructed to change to a mosaic channel while the other client device are receiving channel programs from at least one channel program server via a communication for channel programs, the method comprises the steps of receiving channel information of the channel programs from at least one of the other client devices via the communication network for channel programs; and generating a mosaic channel that comprises channel cells for presenting the channel information.

Abstract: There is provided a method for switching a mobile terminal from a first network interface to a second network interface in a local network environment. The method includes the step of utilizing a same Internet Protocol (IP) address by the mobile terminal for both the first network interface and the second network interface.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for providing a transparent proxy for Internet communications. A filtering and redirection module receives IP requests from at least one client, reads and saves the destination of the IP requests, and rewrites the destination of the IP request to the destination of a proxy module. Upon being unable to read, or otherwise determine, a destination for an IP request, the proxy module accesses destination information about the IP request from the filtering and redirection module. The proxy module then transmits the IP request to a web server at the original destination.

Abstract: A remote site downloading system is disclosed in which a local computer establishes a session with a content server, and a content file and geographic destination drive are selected. The local computer is typically on a first access network and the user wishes to have the file downloaded to a geographic drive, i.e., a remote site computer whose location and other properties are mapped in a mapping file on the local computer. The geographic drive is usually on a different access network in a dynamic location such as a hotspot or a fixed location such as broadband cable or DSL. The local computer is specially programmed to allow selection of the geographic target drive, pack information comprising cookies and a URL, and sends it to the remote geographic drive computer, where it may act as a proxy to cause downloading from the content server to the geographic drive on the remote site computer.

Abstract: The Quality of Service (QoS) level/service level within a wired network associated with a wireless Local Area Network (LAN) is controlled by assigning to each incoming information frame a Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) number in accordance with the QoS level/service level determined for that frame. The frame is then routed in the network in accordance with the VLAN number to assure that the path(s) carrying the frame have the requisite characteristics, such as bandwidth, to satisfy the determined QoS level/service level.

Abstract: A method for enabling access to digital rights managed (DRM) content from a server to a portable playback device using a device that functions as a proxy for enabling communication between the server and the portable playback device. The method provides for establishing a connection with a device capable of operating as a gateway device for passing data between the portable playback device and the server, requesting that the device establish a connection with the server and operate as a proxy for enabling data exchange between the portable playback device and the server, sending to the server, upon establishing the connection with the server via the device operating as a proxy, data indicating DRM solutions supported by the portable playback device, and a list comprising requested DRM content to be downloaded to the portable playback device, and receiving from the server, via the device operating as a proxy, the requested DRM content and DRM rules associated with the received content.

Abstract: A wireless LAN provides access to a mobile terminal (MT) utilizing beacon frames to broadcast access point (AP) service specific information. The MT listens to the beacon frames and compares the broadcast service(s) and service parameters to a predetermined service profile stored in the MT. When the services offered by an AP matches the services designated in the stored service profile, the MT associates with that particular AP.

Abstract: A key synchronization mechanism for wireless LANs is provided where the access point (AP) does not start using a new encryption key until the first data frame correctly encrypted with the new key is received from the station (STA). The new key is used from this point on, until the expiration of a key refresh interval.

Abstract: There is provided a system for providing content through a Content Delivery/distribution Network (CDN) that includes a plurality of storage entities. A Content Requesting device (CR) generates and transmits requests for content. A Content Server (CS) receives the requests from the CR, provides notifications regarding a current location of the content, and at least one of stores the content and interfaces with the CDN to distribute the content to one of the plurality of storage entities. A Content Consuming device (CC) receives the notifications from the CS and retrieves the requested content from one of the CS and the one of the plurality of storage entities based on the current location of the content specified in the notifications.

Abstract: The invention herein provides an apparatus and a method for automatically configuring an IEEE 802.1x client terminal to provide limited access in a WLAN environment, specifically utilizing the access point to filter traffic associated with the limited access so as to redirect the client terminal's HTTP request to a designated local web server. The web server responds to the client terminal by requesting information required to establish an authorized communication. Thereafter the client terminal provides information required to establish an authorized communication. In the course of the communication the web server sends information such as transmission rates, new user account creation information, authentication method selection, and access user terms and conditions of acceptance, all typically required to establish an authorized access. Abstract: A method for authentication authorization and accounting (AAA) in an interworking between at least two networks. The at least two networks are capable of communicating with a broker and include a first network and a second network to user certificate from a user device corresponding to a user of the first network. The first network to user certificate is signed by at a first network private key and includes a broker to first network certificate and a user public key. The broker to first network certificate is signed by a broker private key and includes a first network public key. A session key is sent from the second network to the user device when the broker to first network certificate and the first network to user certificate are determined to be authentic by the second network based upon the broker public key and the first network public key, respectively. The session key is encrypted with the user public key. The session key is permitting the user device to access the second network.

Abstract: A computer method and related apparatus for delivering content files to a client computer are disclosed wherein a request for a content file on a content server is received from a client; a future time period during which the content file will be available on a cache server is determined; and a rewritten uniform resource locator comprising time period availability information, or a link to a file comprising the time period availability information, is returned from the server to the client. The client can use the information to obtain the content file in the determined future time period.

Abstract: A public wireless LAN permits receipt of non-authentication traffic, such as access information requests, from a mobile wireless communications device prior to device authentication by partially opening a controlled port within an access point. The wireless LAN re-directs such non-authentication traffic received at the AP from the mobile wireless communications to a local web server. The local web server provides reply to the mobile wireless communications device, enabling a determination by the device whether or not to request access. The device seeks access by way of an access request received at the AP. In response, the AP re-directs the access request through an uncontrolled port in the AP to an access server that authenticates device. Upon successful device authentication, the AP fully opens its controlled port to permit the exchange of traffic through that port with the mobile wireless communications device.

Abstract: A method and system for providing secure, anonymous access to a wireless local area network, including configuring an access point to drop packets except packets exhibiting an URL access protocol like HTTP and HTTPS, intercepting a URL access request by an access point from a mobile device via a web browser, re-directing the URL access request to a web server by the access point generating a security key by one of the access points and the web server, communicating the generated security key to the said web server securely by the access point or vice versa and setting the security key by the access point is described. A mobile device including means for forwarding a request for secure access to a wireless local area network via a URL access request, means for receiving a mobile code or a signal for displaying a security key and means for setting the security key is also described.
