  • Patent number: 7418266
Abstract: A method for controlling the flow of information on a high-speed channel between a UE and a Node B is provided. Timing of the high-speed channel is based on timing associated with a low-speed channel and a time at which a grant signal is received from the Node B. Upon receiving a grant signal, the UE adds a preselected duration of time to the timing of the low-speed channel to provide timing on the high-speed channel, where the preselected duration of time is selected to maintain substantial orthogonality between the high-speed and low-speed channels.

  • Patent number: 7154960
Abstract: The per antenna capacity of each of the transmitter antennas in a MIMO system are individually determined from measurable information at the receiver end. Specifically, the channel capacity for each individual transmitter antenna is calculated at the receiver end as a function of measurable channel coefficients (also known as channel state information), the measurable average signal-to-noise ratio, and the number of transmitter antennas. Once the per antenna capacity of each transmitter antenna is individually determined at the receiver end, the maximum transmission rate for each data stream transmitted by each transmitter antenna is determined from that individual capacity either at the receiver end and fed back to the transmitter end, or is determined at the transmitter end from the individual transmitter antenna capacities that are fed back by the receiver end to the transmitter end. A modulation scheme that supports each maximum transmission rate is then determined based on some defined criteria.

  • Publication number: 20050243895
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for generating a code book for use in a CDMA system. The code book comprises of a plurality of vectors that are used to encode user data. The amplitude and polarity for each vector in the code book are selected to provide a reduced peak-to-average power ratio. The amplitude values can be selected to provide a reduced peak-to-average power ratio while maintaining a desired average energy per chip. The desired energy per chip can be based on the energy per chip of a CDMA system having a lower order spreading factor. Performance can be further improved by employing a first code book under a first signal-to-noise ratio condition and a second code book under a second signal-to-noise ratio condition.

  • Publication number: 20050237932
Abstract: A method and system is described that flexibly and efficiently adjusts uplink data transmission rates in a wireless communication system. In particular, a transport format limit indicator (TFLI) indicating the allowed changes to available transport formats, including, for example, the maximum allowed uplink data transmission rate, is sent by a network node to a user equipment, without a prior request from the user equipment for such information. The user equipment may then adjust its uplink rate based on the TFLI when desired without having to make a request for rate information from the network node.

  • Publication number: 20050070316
Abstract: A method for controlling communications between a mobile device and a pair of base stations during a soft hand off mode of operation is provided. Generally, communications between a first base station and a mobile device are synchronized relative to a first timing signal produced by the first base station. When the mobile device is transported to a location that causes the system to hand off communications to a second base station, the mobile device begins communicating with both the first and second base stations, but the communications with both base stations are synchronized relative to the first timing signal. Thereafter, at the completion of the hand off, the mobile device begins communicating solely with the the second base station using a second timing signal delivered by the second base station.

  • Publication number: 20050068990
Abstract: In a method for aligning a plurality of physical channels for uplink transmission two or more physical channels may be aligned based on a timing offset so that the two channels are transmitted in the uplink at a time instant different than a time of uplink transmission for a third physical channel. Accordingly, the two physical channels may be code multiplexed with additional physical channels other than the third physical channel to generate a code-multiplexed signal to be used for uplink transmission. The timing offset information may be assigned to the user from a base station, for example, in order to align the two physical channels. Accordingly, an increase in peak-to-average power ratio my be avoided and/or reduced if multiplexing the two physical channels with other physical channels for uplink transmission.

  • Publication number: 20050053088
Abstract: In the method for enhanced uplink data transmission, a transport channel for each transmission mode is independently generated. Each transport channel has an associated transmission time interval (TTI), and the generated transport channels are multiplexed on a selected TTI basis to form a composite transport channel. The selected TTI is selected from one of the TTIs associated with the independently generated transport channels. The composite transport channel is then mapped onto a physical channel.

  • Publication number: 20050047393
Abstract: In a method of transmitting control signals for uplink transmission of packet data in a communication network, control signal data related to scheduling a user for uplink transmission of packet data is transmitted over a single control channel. The single control channel may be configured based on the transmission mode the user is in for scheduling an uplink transmission from the user to the network, so that only one control channel is used, regardless of the transmission mode the user is in for scheduling the user for the uplink transmission. The control channel may be embodied as a sub-frame adapted to carry control information that is dependent based on the transmission mode the user is in for scheduling an uplink transmission from the user to the network.

  • Publication number: 20050048920
Abstract: The present invention provides for efficient control signaling in a downlink control channel that specifies the following information: MAC ID, HARQ channel ID, redundancy version, transport format, transport block size, new/continue data indicator and pilot boost/deboost. Optionally, the downlink control channel may also specify whether transmit time interval may be varied or fixed. Advantageously, this information may be supplied in a subframe that may be organized so as to specify in the first part of the frame information that can be used immediately by the remote terminal and to specify in a later part of the frame information that does not have to be used immediately. In particular, information such as the transport format, transport block size and new/continue data indicator may be advantageously specified in the first part of the frame and information such as the pilot boost/deboost may be specified in a later part of the same frame.

  • Publication number: 20050041694
Abstract: In a method of transmitting control signals for uplink transmission of packet data, a control channel carrying control signal data that is shared by a plurality of users is transmitted in the downlink to the users. The shared control channel includes fields identifiable by, or specified for, different ones of the users, so that each field includes control signal data for a specified user for uplink transmission of packet data. The specified user decodes a corresponding field of the shared control channel to interpret the control signal data, and may transmit packet data in the uplink in accordance with the decoded control signal data.

  • Patent number: 6847805
Abstract: A method for generating channel quality feedback information in terms of quantized eigenvectors calculated from an eigenvalue decomposition that uses a channel matrix and an eigenvalue matrix to generate quantized and bounded eigenvectors. The channel correlation matrix and the eigenvalue matrix are obtained from a channel matrix formed from channel measurements of various signal parameters of signals transmitted over the communication channel. The eigenvalue decomposition uses the elements of the channel correlation matrix, the elements of the eigenvalue matrix and conditional relationships between elements of the channel correlation matrix to calculate the quantized and bounded eigenvectors. Because the elements of the quantized bounded eigenvectors can be expressed in terms of each other, not all elements of the quantized bounded vectors need be transmitted over the communication channel resulting in efficient use of the communication channel.
