  • Patent number: 6891331
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing electrodes that can effectively suppress edge-curl when metal electrodes such as bus electrodes and data electrodes are patterned mainly by a photolithography method. In order to achieve the above object, in the manufacturing method in the present invention, an amount of undercut generated by difference in a degree of dissolution caused by developing solution is controlled, and baking is performed at a temperature such that glass in a protrusion formed at side edges becomes soft so as to touch a substrate by gravity. With such method for manufacturing, it becomes possible to make the side edges rounded whose curvature changes continuously.

  • Publication number: 20050046330
Abstract: A plasma display device is provided in which deterioration in brightness of phosphor layers can be avoided. The plasma display device includes a plasma display panel in which a plurality of discharge cells in one color or in a plurality of colors are arranged and phosphor layers are arranged so as to correspond to the discharge cells in colors and in which light is emitted by exciting the phosphor layers with ultraviolet rays. • Patent number: 6848964
Abstract: A method is provided to steadily produce a gas discharge panel, such as a PDP, in which a panel and the top of the barrier ribs are in intimate contact in entirety. First a surrounding unit for the gas discharge panel is formed, then a process for sealing the surrounding unit with a sealing material inserted between two panels at the rim is performed while pressure is adjusted so that pressure inside the surrounding unit is lower than pressure outside. With this construction, the panels constituting the surrounding unit are bonded together while they are pressurized from outside. As a result, a panel and the top of the barrier ribs on the other panel are bonded together while they are in intimate contact in entirety. To fully acquire these effects, it is preferable that the adjustment of pressure starts before the sealing material hardens.

  • Publication number: 20040239245
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a plasma display device which prevents the brightness of a phosphor layer from lowering is disclosed, and the method can form the phosphor layer in a stable manner because a nozzle is free from clogging. At least one of the phosphor layers has a green phosphor layer containing green phosphor having zero or positive charges and a crystal structure of Zn2SiO4:Mn. Green phosphor ink, of which major ingredient is the green phosphor, is applied through the nozzle to discharging cells, thereby forming the green phosphor layer. The green phosphor ink is formed of green phosphor powder coated with oxide having positive charges, or the ink is formed by crushing the green phosphor powder originally having negative charges and a crystal structure of Zn2SiO4:Mn such that the powder changes to have positive charges.

  • Publication number: 20040232839
Abstract: A glass paste used as a starting material of a transparent dielectric of a plasma display panel (“PDP”), the glass paste enabling the baking time required in forming a dielectric layer of the PDP to be shortened without reducing the transmissivity of the dielectric layer. A decomposition accelerator for accelerating the decomposition of an organic component is included in the glass paste so as to contact with the organic component. As a result, the decomposition of the organic component is accelerated when the glass paste is baked. Moreover, since the organic component is substantially eliminated before the baking temperature reaches a temperature at which a glass powder in the glass paste begins to melt, gas from decomposing organic component is not generated when the glass powder melts, and consequently the trapping of gas bubbles within the dielectric layer is prevented.

  • Patent number: 6820985
Abstract: To provide a display panel, such as a PDP, that can reduce noise caused by a collision sound which occurs when a front panel member and a back panel member vibrate while the display panel is being driven. Projections (21) are provided on a surface of a first panel member facing a second panel member. The first panel member and the second panel member are connected to each other by a connecting material in areas (23) where the projections intersect barrier ribs (18). In this way, noise (noise level) caused by a collision sound which occurs when the front panel member and the back panel member vibrate while the display panel is being driven can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6812641
Abstract: A plasma display device having improved efficiency and increased image quality. This device includes a pair of front and back substrates opposed to each other to form between the substrates a discharge space partitioned by barrier ribs, a plurality of display electrodes each disposed on the front substrate to form a discharge cell between the barrier ribs, a dielectric layer formed above the front substrate to cover the display electrodes, and a phosphor layer which emits light by discharge between the display electrodes. The dielectric layer is constructed of at least two layers of different dielectric constants and is formed with, at its surface closer to the discharge space, a recessed part in each discharge cell. This limits a discharge region, thus realizing highly efficient discharge. The structure having the two layers of different dielectric constants can suppress crosstalk even if this structure has reduced thickness.

  • Publication number: 20040212305
Abstract: A PDP has first and second substrates which face each other with a space in between. A display electrode pair and a dielectric layer are formed on the first substrate, and a plurality of discharge cells are formed between the first and second substrates along the display electrode pair. In this construction, two or more depressions are provided in the dielectric layer in an area corresponding to each discharge cell. This improves luminous intensity and illumination efficiency. Also, to form the dielectric layer on the first substrate, first a transfer film is made by providing a dielectric precursor layer on a support film, then depressions are formed in the dielectric precursor layer of the transfer film, and lastly the dielectric precursor layer of the transfer film is transferred onto the first substrate. This decreases the number of manufacturing steps and increases the yield, thereby reducing manufacturing costs.

  • Patent number: 6803723
Abstract: A plasma display device has a first plate and a second plate which face each other with a discharge space therebetween, and a sealing member which is provided between the first and second plates to seal the discharge space at edges of the first and second plates. A plurality of electrodes are formed on the inner major surface of the first or second plate. An electrode diffusion preventive layer is formed in each area where the plurality of electrodes cross over the sealing member, so as to avoid direct contact between the plurality of electrodes and the sealing member. As a result, problems such as breaking of the electrodes can be avoided. This construction is especially effective when the electrodes contain Ag.
