  • Patent number: 7204939
Abstract: The present invention aims to inhibit water adsorption onto the surface of a blue phosphor(blue fluorescent material), decrease luminance degradation and chromaticity shift of a phosphor, or improve discharge characteristics thereof. Used in a phosphor for a plasma display is a blue phosphor in which trivalent Eu ions substitute for part of divalent Eu ions. This substitution eliminates oxygen vacancy in the vicinity of layers containing Ba atoms (Ba—O layers) in the blue phosphor, and thus inhibits water adsorption onto the surface of the blue phosphor, decreases luminance degradation and chromaticity shift of the phosphor, or improves discharge characteristics thereof.

  • Patent number: 7125306
Abstract: A method of producing a gas discharge panel includes forming a surrounding unit by positioning a first panel and a second panel together with barrier ribs to partition the space between the panels into cells for light emission when charged with a plasma gas and appropriately addressed. An anti-sealing material inflow rib surrounds the barrier ribs. Sealing material is positioned outside the anti-sealing material inflow rib. The pressure inside the surrounding unit is adjusted to be lower than pressure outside the surrounding unit while applying heat to fuse the sealing material between the first panel and the second panel whereby sealing material is prevented from inflowing into the cells between the barrier ribs during production.

  • Patent number: 7070471
Abstract: A manufacturing apparatus for a PDP includes a unit for forming a protective layer protecting a dielectric layer on a first plate, a unit for baking a phosphor layer applied on a second plate, a unit for sealing the first and second plates arranged so that the protective layer faces the phosphor layer, and a unit for baking the first and second plates while exhausting a space between them. The four units are placed in one or more closed chamber. When the apparatus is driven, spaces in and between the closed chambers each contain a gas atmosphere with vapor partial pressure of 10 mPa or lower, or with a pressure of 1 Pa or lower, where the protective layer and the phosphor layer exhibit less water-absorbing property, preventing degradation of the PDP performances. The protective layer does not contact with atmospheric carbonic acid gas, preventing alteration thereof.

  • Publication number: 20060108923
Abstract: Disclosed here is a plasma display unit that employs phosphors having an amount of charge controlled close to zero, by which degradation in luminance, color temperature, and charge characteristics can be minimized. A phosphor bearing positive or negative charge is coated with a compound for controlling the amount of charge of the phosphor through a strong chemical bonding, whereby the amount of charge of a phosphor can be suppressed within ±0.01 ?C/g. Controlling the amount of charge of phosphors close to zero can keep impurity gases away from the phosphor particle when the panel is in operation, suppressing problems critical to driving a plasma display unit, such as luminance degradation of phosphors, improper alignment of color in panel operation, luminance degradation when the panel displays all white.
