Patent number: 9181842Abstract: A temperature sensor includes temperature detecting means and at least one of a catalyst and an adsorbent applied to the surface of the temperature detecting means. At least one of the catalyst and the adsorbent catalyzes an exothermic reaction of a reactant in gas on the temperature detecting means. A temperature that is increased by the exothermic reaction is detected by the temperature detecting means. The catalytic efficiency for the exothermic reaction of at least one of the catalyst and the adsorbent is reduced by sulfur poisoning. The temperature sensor is disposed upstream of an exhaust purification system. Accordingly, it is determined that the temperature sensor is subjected to sulfur poisoning if the temperature detected by the temperature sensor is below a prescribed temperature.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2010Date of Patent: November 10, 2015Assignee: TOYOTA JIDOSHA KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Kazuhiro Umemoto, Hiromasa Nishioka, Yoshihisa Tsukamoto, Junichi Matsuo, Takamitsu Asanuma, Takao Fukuma, Kouhei Yoshida, Daichi Imai, Yuka Nakata

Publication number: 20150308320Abstract: In an exhaust gas purification system for an internal combustion engine provided with a filter supporting an SCR catalyst, the present invention is intended to suppress HC and CO from being discharged to the outside at the time of the execution of filter regeneration processing, and to carry out the filter regeneration processing in an efficient manner. In the present invention, a post-catalyst having an oxidation function is arranged in an exhaust passage at the downstream side of the filter. Then, when the temperature of the post-catalyst is lower than a predetermined activation temperature at the time the execution of the filter regeneration processing is requested, the temperature of the post-catalyst is raised by carrying out control of raising the temperature of the exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine, and control increasing the flow rate of the exhaust gas, before the execution of the filter regeneration processing.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 3, 2012Publication date: October 29, 2015Inventors: Junichi MATSUO, Nobumoto OHASHI, Shigeki NAKAYAMA, Kenji SAKURAI, Akira MIKAMI, Keishi TAKADA, Yoshihisa TSUKAMOTO, Hiroshi OTSUKI, Ichiro YAMAMOTO

Publication number: 20150292378Abstract: An object of the present invention is to suppress HC, CO, and NOx from being discharged to the outside when a filter regeneration process is executed in an exhaust gas purification system for an internal combustion engine provided with a filter including an SCR catalyst carried thereon. In the present invention, a post-catalyst is provided for an exhaust gas passage disposed on a downstream side from the filter. The post-catalyst has an oxidizing function, and the post-catalyst has such a function that the production of N2 based on the oxidation of ammonia is facilitated in a predetermined first temperature area. Patent number: 9108153Abstract: In an internal combustion engine, inside of an engine exhaust passage, a hydrocarbon feed valve (15) and an exhaust treatment catalyst (13) are arranged. On a substrate (45) of the exhaust treatment catalyst (13), a coat layer comprised of at least two layers of a top coat layer (46) and a bottom coat layer (47) is formed. The top coat layer (46) is comprised of an exhaust purification catalyst for reacting NOx contained in exhaust gas and reformed hydrocarbons, while the bottom coat layer (47) is comprised of an NOx absorption catalyst. The concentration of hydrocarbons which flows into the exhaust treatment catalyst (13) is made to vibrate within a predetermined range of amplitude and within a predetermined range of period. Due to this, NOx contained in exhaust gas and NOx desorbed from the NOx absorption catalyst (47) are reduced in the exhaust purification catalyst (46).Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2010Date of Patent: August 18, 2015Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hiromasa Nishioka, Kohei Yoshida, Yoshihisa Tsukamoto, Yuki Bisaiji, Junichi Matsuo, Takamitsu Asanuma

Patent number: 9080480Abstract: A wall flow type particulate filter is arranged inside the exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine where combustion is performed under an excess of oxygen. The particulate filter carries a solid acid. The solid acid has an acid strength which is higher than the acid strength of sulfurous acid and lower than the acid strength of sulfuric acid.
