  • Patent number: 6968119
Abstract: An electronic camera includes a CCD imager. When a motion image recording mode is selected, the depression of a shutter button creates a plurality of screens of image signals based on camera signals outputted from the CCD imager. A system controller calculates an optimal compression ratio for compressing the image signal to a target size and sets optimal compression ratio to an image compression circuit. The image compression circuit compresses a current image signal obtained following a preceding image signal with this optimal compression ratio. Such compression process creates a plurality of screens of a compressed image signals, whereby a write control circuit records the plurality of screens of the compressed image signals to a memory card.

  • Patent number: 6728471
Abstract: An image reproducing apparatus includes an interface connected with a memory card recorded with a motion image file formed by a plurality of still image files. In a reproduce mode, still image files are continuously reproduced from the memory card to display a corresponding motion image on a monitor. When normal reproduction is instructed, decompression is made for each still image file in response to vertical synchronizing signal. As a result, motion images are reproduced at a normal rate. On the other hand, when high speed reproduction is instructed, after compression has been completed for a current still image file, a next still image file is promptly started of compression. Due to this, motion images are reproduced at high speed.

  • Patent number: 6697568
Abstract: A motion image recording apparatus includes a shutter button. When the shutter button is pressed, still image data in frames due to picture taking is subjected to compression by a JPEG CODEC. The compressed image data is written to an SDRAM that operates as a ring buffer. The compressed image data is read out of the SDRAM concurrently with such writing, and then recorded onto a memory card. As a result, long-time motion images are recorded on the memory card. However, the read rate from the SDRAM is slower than the write rate onto the SDRAM. Accordingly, the writing is suspended when a write position approaches a read position and they becomes a predetermined relationship.

  • Patent number: 6671408
Abstract: A motion image reproducing apparatus includes a mode change switch. If a reproduce mode is set by this mode change switch, compressed image data accommodated in a desired AVI file of a memory card is read out frame by frame in an intermittent fashion. The read-out 1-frame compressed image data is stored in an SDRAM and thereafter decompressed by a JPEG CODEC. The decompressed image data is outputted onto a monitor through the same SDRAM. As a result, a corresponding still image to the decompressed image data is displayed on a monitor screen. If decompressed image data is obtained, the compressed image data stored in the SDRAM becomes unnecessary. The unnecessary one of compressed image data will be overwritten by the succeeding one of compressed image data to be read out of the memory card.
