  • Patent number: 9764082
Abstract: A patient care system is disclosed that includes a medical device such as an infusion pump. The medical device generates a data message containing information such as the status of the therapy being delivered, operating data or both. An alarm generating system assesses the data message from the pump and generates an alarm message if certain conditions established by a first set of rules are met. The alarm message is assessed according to a second set of rules as to whether to suppress the alarm message. The data message contains a required input for both the first and second algorithms. A dispatching system is adapted to forward the alarm message to an alarm destination according to a third set of rules. The alarm destination expresses an alarm upon receipt of the alarm message.

  • Patent number: 9425747
Abstract: A system and method of improving the efficiency in the power consumption of an audio system. In essence, the technique is to adjust the power delivered from the power supply to the analog section, such as the power amplifier, in response to the volume level indicated by the volume control module and/or in response to the detected characteristic of the input audio signal. Thus, in this manner, the analog section is operated in a manner that is related to the level of the signal it is processing. Additionally, the system and method also relate to a technique of adjusting the dynamic ranges of the digital signal and the analog signal to improve the overall dynamic range of the system without needing to consume additional power.

  • Publication number: 20140257510
Abstract: An anatomic prosthetic femoral implant system has a series of modular part-spherical heads and between 4 and 8 femoral component size groups. Each size group has only four components, two left and two right hip implants. One right and one left component being neutral in version and one right and one left being anteverted at an angle producing a head offset of between 4 and 5 mm from neutral. The head offset remains in this 4-5 mm range through all the size groups in the system. It has been found that a large proportion of the target patient population can be served by such a system.

  • Patent number: 8529574
Abstract: A cutting guide for removing a lesion from a neck area of a femur has a body having first and second side rails. The first and second side rails are spaced in a direction perpendicular to the head neck axis of the femur when mounted adjacent a neck of the femur. A third rail has ends slidably mounted on the first and second side rails. The third rail can be resiliently deformable toward a surface of the neck of the femur. A carrier element slidably mounted on the third rail for movement therealong between the first rail and the second rail. A bone cutting tool such as a burr is mountable in the carrier element. The first and second rails are connected by a proximal rigid cross-member at first ends thereof adjacent a femoral head. The cross-member is shaped to conform to an outer surface of the femoral neck adjacent the femoral head. • Publication number: 20130062204
Abstract: Various methods and systems are provided for reducing elasto-capillary coalescence of nanostructures. In one embodiment, a method includes providing a plurality of wet nanostructures on an electrode with a counter electrode positioned in air opposite the wet nanostructures. An electric field is applied between the counter electrode and the wet nanostructures using a voltage source, thereby reducing aggregation of the nanostructures. In another embodiment, an elasto-capillary coalescence reduction apparatus includes an electrode configured to receive a plurality of wet nanostructures, a counter electrode positioned in air opposite the wet nanostructures, and a voltage source coupled to the electrode and the counter electrode. The voltage source is configured to apply an electric field across the electrode and the nanostructures, which causes each of the nanostructures to repel a neighboring nanostructure.

  • Patent number: 8371626
Abstract: Latch systems for use in aircraft are disclosed. One system includes a frame, a pin at least partially inside frame, an interface portion, and a link. Pin has proximal and distal ends and is slidable between extended and retracted positions. Interface portion is pivotable between open and closed positions and has a handle for receiving a force to move interface portion to open and closed positions. Link is pivotably coupled to pin and interface portion such that pin is at extended position while interface portion is at closed position and pin is at retracted position while interface portion is at open position. Interface portion has an impact face in line with pin when interface portion is at closed position to ensure pin does not reach retracted position while interface portion is at closed position.
