  • Publication number: 20070262675
Abstract: Adjustable cooling machinery for optical disc manufacturing is described. According to one exemplary embodiment, the adjustable cooling machine can be easily configured to allow two different diameters (e.g., 120 mm and 80 mm) of optical discs to be cooled in an optical disc manufacturing production facility. Specifically, the adjustable cooling machine can be adjusted from a first to a second configuration by changing few screws or locknuts and a connecting belt. According to one aspect of the present invention, the adjustable cooling machine comprises three identical spiral grooved shafts supported at either end by a pair of support structures via respective pairs of adjustable bearings. Each of the support structures is connected to a base plate via a pair of fasteners.

  • Patent number: 7276119
Abstract: Techniques for a cover layer with uniform thickness are disclosed. The cover layer is formed with a type of material, such as glue, in hardened form. In one embodiment, a certain amount of the material in liquid form is dispensed onto a dispensing structure. After the dispensing structure is engaged to hold a disc, the dispensing structure and the disc as a whole unit to be rotated at a predefined speed. The dispensed material on the dispensing structure is dispersed evenly onto the surface of the disc as result of the centrifugal force. A curing process (e.g., using UV lighting) is then engaged to harden the material near the edge of the disc to prevent the dispersed material from shrinking.

  • Patent number: 7137458
Abstract: An impact mechanism for a hammer drill, which has a housing and a drill bit protruding outside the housing, is provided. The mechanism includes firstly an impact platform within the housing; the impact platform is in connection with the drill bit for receiving impact forces and for transferring the impact forces to the drill bit. The mechanism also has a plurality of cams within the housing, and the plurality of cams are angularly spaced apart and arranged about an axis of rotation. The mechanism further includes a plurality of hammers placed within the housing and interactable with both the impact platform and the plurality of cams. The plurality of hammers are angularly spaced apart and arranged about the axis of rotation, and each hammer is capable of reciprocating along the axis for exerting the impact forces on the impact platform.

  • Patent number: 6837312
Abstract: A novel corer and grinder apparatus suitable for interplanetary travel and extraplanetary operation is disclosed. The corer grinder composes a claw element attached to a shaft coupled to a motor. A second motor compresses a spring forcing against a hammer unit that constitute the majority of the unit's mass. On release the energy stored in the compressed spring converts into momentum of the hammer unit that strikes against the claw element releasing the impact energy directly to the cutting end for cutting. The direction of the energy released is modified by an impact platform to produce a horizontal chipping action to aid cutting. The claw element further comprises a pair of semi-cylindrical claw elements that separate upon rotation of the shaft in a first direction, easing collection of core samples. The semi-cylindrical claw elements join upon rotation of the shaft in the opposite direction, thereby grasping the core sample during removal from the material being sampled.

  • Publication number: 20020110357
Abstract: A hexadecimal/binary-coded-decimal (HEXA-BCD) hybrid address coding method for representing digital timing address of data storage device, wherein the first digit of the minute filed is represented in Hexadecimal format with four binary data bits, therefore the 0-9 is the same as the BCD coding while 11-15 (A-F) is an extension which allows the proprietary recorder to recognize the data storage device and generates the time address for the digital data storage device. Furthermore, a slight fireware change is made by extending the address look up table to 159:59:74. Hence the first digit of the time address must be represented in Hexadecimal which fully utilizes the four addressing bits in the M1 frame.

  • Patent number: 5463205
Abstract: An automatic switching apparatus for a hand held electrically operated appliance, such as a pressing iron. The automatic switching apparatus is provided within a circuit board located within the housing of the iron. The automatic switching apparatus includes a first timing circuit and a photosensitive switch which function in conjunction with one another such that when the user breaks contact with the photosensitive switch located on the handle portion of the iron, the first timing circuit is enabled to de-energize the heating element of the iron after contact has been broken with the photo-sensitive switch for a predetermined period of time. A second timing circuit is provided to disable the first timing circuit for a second predetermined period of time when the iron is initially plugged into the wall outlet so as to permit the heating element to reach a temperature level suitable for ironing without necessitating the user to contact the photosensitive switch when the heating element is initially energized.
