Abstract: A frit composition useful for sealing a light emitting device is disclosed. The frit composition comprises a glass portion comprising a base component and at least one absorbing component. The glass portion of the frit comprises silica, boron oxide, optionally alumina, and (a) cupric oxide and/or a (b) combination of ferric oxide, vanadium pentoxide, and optionally titanium dioxide. Also disclosed is an article comprising a substrate and a frit, and a glass package comprising two substrates and a frit positioned between the substrates. A method for manufacturing a hermetically sealed glass package comprising the deposition of a glass frit and heating of the glass frit to form a hermetic seal is also disclosed.

Abstract: A glass package is disclosed comprising a first substrate and a second substrate, where the substrates are attached in at least two locations, at least one attachment comprising a frit, and at least one attachment comprising a polymeric adhesive and wherein the frit comprises a glass portion comprising: a base component comprising and at least one absorbing component. Also disclosed is a method of sealing a light emitting display device comprising providing a light emitting layer, a first substrate and a second substrate, where a frit is deposited between the substrates and a polymeric adhesive is deposited either between the substrates or around the edge of the device, and where the frit is sealed with a radiation source and the polymeric adhesive is cured.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a hermetic seal between two substrates includes providing an electromagnetic absorbent sealing material perimetrically about a surface of one of the substrates. Furthermore, the illustrative method includes heating the sealing material. In addition, a package having a hermetic seal and apparati for disposing a sealing material are described.

Abstract: A top emission, organic light emitting diode display comprises an organic light emitting diode (OLED), a first substrate having an inner surface, and a second substrate having an inner surface, wherein the OLED is sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate. At least one of the first substrate and the second substrate includes a pocket formed in the inner surface thereof having a depth such that a distance between the inner surface of the first substrate and the inner surface of the second substrate sufficient to reduce or eliminate the formation of optical distortions such as Newton rings in the display. Other embodiments of the display comprise a frit located between the first and second substrates having a thickness such that the distance between the inner surfaces of the first and second substrates is great enough to prevent the formation of Newton rings.
