The fishing reel includes a frame having a nut mounting part, a tension nut screwed to the nut mounting part to adjust a distance in an axial direction of a spool shaft and having a tension adjusting part therein to press a first end of the spool shaft and thereby adjust rotating force of the spool, a first adjustment means configured to make a moving distance per rotation of the tension nut larger or smaller than a predetermined distance, and a second adjustment means configured to make the moving distance per rotation of the tension nut smaller or larger than the predetermined distance, in opposition to the moving distance per rotation of the tension nut by the first adjustment means.

The fishing reel has a hidden lock lever for a palm-side first side cover in which an operating portion of the lock lever protrudes out of the first side cover when the first side cover is unlocked so that a user can immediately know that the first side cover is unlocked when holding the fishing reel, and the operating portion of the lock lever is hidden inside the first side cover so that a user can fish with the fishing reel in his/her hands without inconvenience.

The first side cover is easily and quickly opened with one hand without risk of losing the cover, and the lock lever is automatically locked because the lock lever is recovered automatically by an elastic body.
