  • Patent number: 5276517
Abstract: An equalization circuit for a reproduced video signal detects the levels of a reference signal in two different frequency bands and, based on a comparison of the detected levels, selects an equalization curve from a memory and controls the equalization characteristic of an equalizer in the signal path based on the selected equalization curve. For a video frequency signal, low-pass and high-pass filters provide the two frequency bands for level checking and for a radio frequency signal two bandpass filters provide the frequency bands of interest located above and below the center color carrier frequency. A memory contains a number of equalization curves, one of which is selected based upon a comparison using the detected reference signal levels that is performed in a central processing unit.

  • Patent number: 5255126
Abstract: A recording and reproducing apparatus in which signals are recorded onto and reproduced from a magnetic tape wound around a peripheral surface of a rotary drum by magnetic heads which are attached to the peripheral surface of the rotary drum corresponding to a plurality of channels, respectively, comprises at least: a detector to detect an envelope level of a reproduced RF signal which is derived from the magnetic head every channel; a comparator to compare the detection output and a reference level and to generate a control voltage corresponding to the magnetic head every channel; a latch to store the control voltage; and a circuit to make the envelope level of the reproduction RF signal constant in accordance with a predetermined timing for supplying the control voltage.

  • Patent number: 5241398
Abstract: Information signal reproducing apparatus operates to recover an information signal from record tracks at normal and fast-speed playback modes. Dropouts in the information signal reproduced from the tracks are detected to commence a correction signal interval which ends when a synchronizing signal in the reproduced information signal is detected. A corrected information signal is produced by substituting a correction signal for the reproduced information signal substantially throughout the correction signal interval when the apparatus operates in a fast-speed playback mode.

  • Patent number: 5182520
Abstract: In an apparatus for non-linear de-emphasis of an input signal, an amplitude limiting signal is obtained by subtracting a high-pass filtered and amplitude limited input signal from the original input signal, then the amplitude limiting signal is amplified with a gain determined by the amplitude of the amplitude limiting signal and subtracted from the input signal to provide a non-linearly de-emphasized signal with an improved signal-to-noise ratio and without substantial deterioration in high frequency small amplitude components of the input signal.

  • Patent number: 4876703
Abstract: In an apparatus having a CCD for compressing and/or expanding the time base of an input signal; a first two-phase transfer clock pulse signal made up of first and second pulse train signals having a first period and arranged to be 180.degree. out of phase with each other is used for driving the CCD while writing the input signal into the CCD, a second two-phase transfer clock pulse signal made up of third and fourth pulse train signals having a second period and arranged to be 180.degree. out of phase with each other is used for driving the CCD while reading from the CCD a signal which is produced from the input signal with its time base compressed or expanded, and the pulse width of the first pulse train signal is made virtually equal to the pulse width of the third pulse train signal and such pulse width is selected to be smaller than one-half of the smaller of the first and second periods.

  • Patent number: 4789906
Abstract: An apparatus for processing a video signal to be recorded having a pre-emphasis circuit for pre-emphasizing a signal component with a first predetermined frequency band in the video signal to produce a pre-emphasized video signal, a modulating circuit for frequency modulating a carrier with the pre-emphasized video signal to be recorded, an extracting circuit for extracting a signal component with a second frequency band within the first predetermined frequency band and having a level higher than a threshold level from the video signal, a multiplier for multiplying the outputs of the modulating circuit and the extracting circuit, whereby the amplitude of the frequency modulated signal from the modulating circuit at the portion when the extracted signal is obtained is higher than at the rest of the portion, and a recording amplifier for amplifying the output of the multiplier.

  • Patent number: 4774594
Abstract: An apparatus for reproducing a pair of color component signals which have been time-axis compressed and recorded sequentially in recording tracks on a recording medium. During a reproducing operation, shift registers in the color component signal reproducing apparatus carry out time-axis expansions of the respective color component signals and restore the latter to the same timing. A write clock output interval for each of the shift registers is arranged intermediate one read clock output operation and a subsequent read clock output operation for that shift register so that overlap between the write and read operations can be prevented in a time axis processing circuit of simple construction.

  • Patent number: 4689695
Abstract: A video signal reproducing apparatus for reproducing a video signal which is recorded by such a manner that a plurality of component signals forming a video signal are time-base-compressed, modulated and then recorded on a recording medium having a head reading the time-base-compressed component signals, a demodulator demodulating the read-out time-base-compressed component signals, a dropout detector detecting a dropout in the read-out time-base-compressed component signals and producing a dropout signal, an adder superimposing the dropout signal upon the demodulated time-base-compressed component signals, a time-base-expander expanding the time bases of the time-base-compressed component signals and that of the dropout signal derived from the adder and producing a plurality of component signals and a dropout signal the time bases of which are expanded to be the normal time bases, a dropout signal detector detecting the superimposed dropout signal from the plurality of time-base-expanded component signals, a
