  • Patent number: 10264448
Abstract: A method is disclosed for facilitating service usage by a wireless terminal. The method is implemented by a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) beacon. The BLE beacon obtains service information describing a service available via a non-BLE wireless connection to a wireless access point. The BLE beacon also obtains connectivity information for establishing the non-BLE wireless connection, for utilizing the service via the non-BLE wireless connection, or both. The BLE beacon periodically broadcasts the service information and connectivity information via BLE transmissions to a wireless terminal that lacks the non-BLE connection. A corresponding BLE beacon operative to implement the method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10237867
Abstract: Methods of operating an electronic device are provided. A method of operating a first electronic device includes listening for a wireless transmission by a second electronic device on a wireless communications channel. The method includes determining whether a packet is a particular type of packet. The method includes assigning a randomized time delay value that defines a randomized delay period, in response to determining that the packet is the particular type of packet. The method includes beginning the randomized delay period in response to determining that the wireless communications channel is clear. Moreover, the method includes transmitting the packet via the wireless communications channel based on expiration of the randomized delay period. Related electronic devices and computer program products are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20190076047
Abstract: Determining the location of a body area network enabled device on a user's body and using the location information to determine whether to send instructions or data to the device over the body area network, includes integrating an EMG sensor into a device that is wearable or otherwise meant to be in contact with or close proximity to an intended area of a user's body. The integrated EMG sensor may detect the electrical potential of the user's body at the point of contact. Variance of electrical potential across the user's body may be used to determine information regarding the location of the sensor, and thus, the location of the device on the user's body. The location of the device, in turn, may be used to determine whether to send instructions or data to the device over the body area network.

  • Publication number: 20180352579
Abstract: Embodiments provide efficient channel access utilizing a channel assessment mode and include determining that a predetermined condition exists on a radio bandwidth (e.g., unlicensed band); and, in response to determining that the predetermined condition exists on the radio bandwidth, initiating the channel assessment mode on the mobile device, where the channel assessment mode is configured to implement a channel assessment scheme configured for efficiently accessing a channel on the radio bandwidth. Some embodiments monitor the radio bandwidth for one or more triggering events indicative of interference; and detect at least one of the one or more triggering events indicative of interference on the radio bandwidth in order to determine the predetermined condition exists.

  • Patent number: 9743364
Abstract: A system including a wireless communication device and a peripheral device communicate with each other using radio frequency (RF) waves that are propagated using a user's own body as a transmission medium. The wireless communication device selectively controls the transmit output power of the peripheral device to cause the peripheral device to transmit data and information in a low-power transmission mode. This minimizes the amount of RF waves that are received at the wireless communication device as reflected RF waves, but helps to ensure that the RF waves that do reach the wireless communication device are transmitted as surface waves along the user's skin. Responsive to the receipt of the surface waves, and based on a validity of the information carried by those surface waves, the wireless communication device transitions from a locked state to an unlocked state.

Measurement signals are transmitted from the first device to the second device. Each measurement signal is associated with a corresponding radio frequency spectrum in which the measurement signal is transmitted. A first radio frequency spectrum associated with a first measurement signal has a different frequency range than a second radio frequency spectrum associated with a second measurement signal of the plurality of measurement signals. At the second device the relative position based on at least the first and second measurement signals is determined.
