  • Patent number: 7942836
Abstract: A massaging and exfoliating razor cover preferably including a deformably resilient body that may have a slot formed therein. Such a slot may be adapted to be positioned over a razor head of the existing razor. In this manner, the body may be stretched to a tensioned position when placed over the razor head of the existing razor. The body may further include a plurality of protrusions extending outwardly from the body, and a ridge extending outwardly from the body. Notably, the protrusions and ridge are suitably positioned on the body such that the protrusions and ridge independently engage the skin surface and thereby independently massage and exfoliate the skin surface respectively.

  • Publication number: 20110047315
Abstract: A system and corresponding method virtualizes a real-time clock in the presence of a time-disrupting event. The real-time clock is used with physical machines and includes a single time source within each of the physical machines. The system is implemented in one or more programmable devices, which may be hardware and/or software devices, or a combination of hardware and software devices. The physical machines include one or more virtual machines. The system includes an offset module that determines a time difference offset between a virtual interrupt timer counter (ITCV) associated with a virtual machine and a physical interrupt timer counter (ITCP) associated with a physical machine. The system also includes a virtual machine monitor that computes one or more first time adjustments based on the offset and applies the adjustments to eliminate at least a first part of the offset.

  • Patent number: 7801525
Abstract: A method for conserving paging and access channel bandwidth is provided in a wireless network (A) that includes: a plurality of cells (32) served by a mobile switching center (20); a paging channel for paging a mobile station (MS) (40) located within the cells (32); and, an access channel by which the MS (40) registers with the network (A). The method includes: defining a first set of location areas (LAs) including a plurality of paging LAs (50), each paging LA (50) including a plurality of cells (32); and, defining a second set of LAs including a plurality of registration LAs (60), each registration LA (60) including a plurality of paging LAs (50). As the MS travels, it registers with the network when entering one registration LA (60) from another, but it does not register when entering one paging LA (50) from another within the same registration LA (60).

  • Publication number: 20090202985
Abstract: A sensor for detecting an electric field fluctuation associated with the permeabilization of a bacterial cell wall comprises a substrate, at least two electrodes integrated on the substrate, an amplifier integrated on the substrate, and a processor electrically connected to the amplifier to analyze the amplified signal. The substrate and the at least two electrodes define a well between the at least two electrodes, and the at least two electrodes being configured to generate a signal in response to an electric field fluctuation in close proximity to the well or the electrodes triggered when at least one antibacterial agent associated with the well contacts a cognate target. The amplifier is configured to generate an amplified signal in response to the signal. In addition, the processor is electrically connected to the amplifier to analyze the amplified signal.

  • Patent number: 7437120
Abstract: An apparatus monitors the motion of sheet, such as in a digital printer. An optical sensor is capable of recording an image in a two-dimensional array of pixels, and has acuity to recognize a terrain of a small area on a sheet that is substantially blank to a human eye. The optical sensor views a portion of a sheet moving in a process direction through a path. A detection system compares at least two recorded terrain images from the sheet, thereby directly measuring velocity and direction of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 7390377
Abstract: We demonstrate a new method for joining patterned thermoplastic parts into layered structures. The method takes advantage of case-II permeant diffusion to generate dimensionally controlled, activated bonding layers at the surfaces being joined. It is capable of producing bonds characterized by cohesive failure while preserving the fidelity of patterned features in the bonding surfaces. This approach is uniquely suited to production of microfluidic multilayer structures, as it allows the bond-forming interface between plastic parts to be precisely manipulated at micrometer length scales. The bond enhancing procedure is easily integrated in standard process flows and requires no specialized equipment.

  • Publication number: 20080104358
Abstract: A method manages memory of a computer where the physical memory of the computer includes one or more non-pageable pools. According to the method, one or more non-pageable pools of physical memory that are otherwise managed by a virtual memory are designated. The memory for one of the designated pools is then mapped in response to a request from a non-privileged program.

  • Patent number: 7337296
Abstract: A method for use in a computer. A user of the computer stores a table of selections in a permanent memory structure of the computer, each selection indicating a memory object and one of at least two memory management policies for the memory object. The selections may select from one or more choices: e.g., whether pages of the memory object are to be reserved, or faulted on demand; whether pages of the memory object are to be locked into physical memory of the computer, or to be demand paged from a fluid page pool; whether pages allocated for the memory object are to be zeroed; whether the memory object is to be mapped using shared page tables; or specifying whether memory for the memory object is to be allocated contiguous physical pages of memory. A symbolic name is assigned to each of the memory objects. A non-privileged process issues a request designating one of the memory objects by symbolic name, and allocating memory from a reserved pool of memory for use in the object.
