  • Patent number: 7272899
Abstract: Shoes that are made to allow straps to be attached, removed, covered, or exchanged so that many different looks can be achieved. A properly equipped shoe base could be provided to which appropriate straps may be attached to the front or heel portion of the shoe base (or both). A variation is to provide a shoe base with an existing strap or straps. The strap or straps would be equipped with attachment points so that the existing straps can be covered, creating a different look for the shoe. Additionally, shoe bases could be purchased separately to allow for a more custom-fitting shoe for each foot than has been traditionally available.

  • Publication number: 20060171725
Abstract: An apparatus monitors the motion of sheet, such as in a digital printer. An optical sensor is capable of recording an image in a two-dimensional array of pixels, and has acuity to recognize a terrain of a small area on a sheet that is substantially blank to a human eye. The optical sensor views a portion of a sheet moving in a process direction through a path. A detection system compares at least two recorded terrain images from the sheet, thereby directly measuring velocity and direction of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 6804766
Abstract: A method is disclosed for managing pages of a designated memory object according to selected memory management policies. A user of the computer stores a table of selections in a memory of the computer, each selection indicating a memory object and one of at least two memory management policies for the memory object. The selections may select from one or more choices: e.g., whether pages of the memory object are to be reserved, or faulted on demand; whether pages of the memory object are to be locked into the memory of the computer, or to be demand paged from a fluid page pool; whether pages allocated for the memory object are to be zeroed; whether the memory object is to be mapped using shared page tables; or specifying the number of levels of translation pages of a designated memory object to be shared or whether memory for the memory object is to be allocated contiguous pages of memory. A symbolic name is assigned to each of the memory objects.

  • Patent number: 6611429
Abstract: The present invention is generally directed grounding an electrical connection to a magnesium cross beam of a motor vehicle. In order to ensure proper grounding, the cross beam is provided with a copper connector. The connector defines a first aperture. An electric circuit is preferably traced on a plastic substrate, where the substrate defines a second aperture. The substrate is placed on top of the cross beam such that the first aperture and the second aperture are aligned with each other. An attaching means such as screws is inserted through the first aperture to the second aperture such that the substrate is attached to the cross beam. In order to prevent the movement of the substrate relative to the cross beam the second aperture is provided with a washer.

  • Patent number: 6582890
Abstract: The invention relates to a multilayer microstructure and a method for preparing thereof. The method involves first applying a first photodefinable composition having a first exposure wavelength on a substrate to form a first polymeric layer. A portion of the first photodefinable composition is then exposed to electromagnetic radiation of the first exposure wavelength to form a first pattern in the first polymeric layer. After exposing the first polymeric layer, a second photodefinable composition having a second exposure wavelength is applied on the first polymeric layer to form a second polymeric layer. A portion of the second photodefinable composition is then exposed to electromagnetic radiation of the second exposure wavelength to form a second pattern in the second polymeric layer. In addition, a portion of each layer is removed according to the patterns to form a multilayer microstructure having a cavity having a shape that corresponds to the portions removed.

  • Patent number: 6090716
Abstract: In the present method, a semiconductor substrate is provided with an epitaxial layer thereon. A source/drain region is provided in a portion of the epitaxial layer, and a plurality of trenches are etched in the epitaxial layer and extend into the substrate, to define a plurality of mesas. An oxide layer of generally uniform thickness is provided over the mesas and in the trenches, and a polysilicon layer is provided over the oxide layer and is etched so that the oxide layer overlying the mesas is exposed, and the top surface of the polysilicon within the trenches is below the level of the tops of the mesas.A layer of spin-on-glass (SOG) is provided, and the SOG layer and oxide layer are etched substantially to the level of the tops of the mesas, to expose the tops of the mesas and to leave the portions of the SOG over the respective polysilicon portions in the trenches substantially coplaner with the tops of the mesas.
