  • Patent number: 7340280
Abstract: A base station and a method of configuring a base station are provided in a cellular telecommunication system, wherein the base station comprises an electrically tunable duplex filter with a tuning range covering at least two parallel sub-bands used in the telecommunication system. The electrically tunable duplex filter is tunable on site to a sub-band allocated to the base station, thus enabling an increased flexibility in selecting a fixed frequency band to be used in the lower frequency stages in the transceiver and the base band parts of the base station.

  • Publication number: 20080014877
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, system, apparatus and software product for carrier frequency shifting in mobile communication systems, e.g., for eliminating or reducing interference, e.g., for a communication between a mobile station and a network element. The communication between the mobile station and the network element may be performed within a GSM/EDGE radio access network. A signal (e.g., a DSR or MDSR carrier) and at least one further signal (e.g., a speech carrier) are identified, wherein bandwidths of the signal and of the at least one further signal overlap. Then, a frequency shift for said signal may be determined according to a predetermined criterion and a carrier frequency of the signal may be shifted by the determined frequency shift, e.g., for eliminating or reducing the interference.

  • Patent number: 7315966
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of measuring the quality of a service transmitted on a traffic channel and to a cellular radio network. In the method the transmitter transmits user data to the receiver, but does not transmit all data frames because the user data are missing. The transmitter transmits control data to the receiver using associated control channels, and calculates the number of frames transmitted to the receiver on the traffic channel during a certain period. The receiver calculates the number of all frames received and decoded correctly during a certain period. A quality value is calculated for a service to be transmitted on the traffic channel during a certain period by subtracting the number of frames transmitted during said period from the number of frames received during said period and by dividing the difference obtained by the number of frames transmitted during said period.

  • Publication number: 20070286300
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, system, apparatus and software product for using a new modified dual symbol rate (MDSR) in an uplink direction in mobile communication systems. The communication between the mobile station and the network element may be performed within evolved GSM/EDGE radio access networks. The MDSR can be for example one and a half times a symbol rate of an uplink speech service, e.g., the current GSM/EDGE symbol rate (13/48 MHz) in the mobile communication system, thus the MDSR may be substantially 13/32 MHz or about 405 kHz. The uplink signal with the MDSR may be modulated, e.g., using a quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), e.g., 16-QAM with 16 states and/or a quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK, or ?/4-QPSK) modulation.

  • Patent number: 7146168
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for providing a downlink connection in a cellular network. A feedback information indicating a selected cell is transmitted to a central network element (20) controlling at least two network elements (N1–N3) serving cells (C1–C3) of the cellular network. The at least two network elements are controlled by the central network element based on the feedback information so as to establish the downlink connection. Thus, the downlink transmissions of the non-central network elements (N1–N3) are controlled by the network so as to decrease performance loss due to reception errors of the feedback information. The feedback information may be a temporary ID obtained in a site selection diversity transmission control scheme.
