  • Patent number: 6347222
Abstract: The invention relates to a tuning method used in a base station which comprises, in addition to at least one transceiver unit generating signals, a filtering means which is separate from the transceiver unit and filters signals which are generated on the transmitting end of the transceiver unit, of which signals part advances to the filtering means and part is reflected back, and which filtering means is tuned to operate in a predetermined frequency band. The transceiver unit comprises a test signal generating means which generates a control signal and a test signal that is located in a predetermined frequency band, which test signal is transmitted further to the filtering means, a means which generates signals of the same magnitude as the signal which advances to the filtering means and is reflected from the filtering means, which signals are connected from the transmitting end to the receiving end of the transceiver.

  • Publication number: 20020009981
Abstract: The invention relates to a power control method and a power control system used in a transmitter of a radio system comprising an amplifier means and a modulation means, which modulates a signal to be transmitted to the radio path. The control system also comprises a control means, which forms an amplification control signal used to adjust the transmission power of the signal to be transmitted to the radio path. The control system further comprises a means which forms a reference signal following the changes in the envelope of the modulated signal, and a means which samples the amplified signal in order to form a sample signal. The control means forms a control signal, which adjusts the amplification of the amplifier means, from the reference signal and the sample signal.

  • Publication number: 20020009101
Abstract: A signalling method in a wireless digital telecommunication system, where the signals between a base station and a terminal comprise bursts generated from symbols. The symbols comprise at least one stealing symbol indicating, if necessary, the use of a traffic channel for signalling. The symbols are generated from several bits by modulating and the stealing symbol is used for transmitting various signalling messages. A signalling message to be transferred is coded into a code word which is placed into one or more stealing symbols. The code word may be interleaved into the stealing symbols of several bursts. The method can be used, for example, for controlling the transmission power of the mobile station and the base station.

  • Publication number: 20020003783
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of allocating Abis interface transmission channels in a packet cellular radio network, and to a network part utilizing the method. The method comprises (502) allocating fixedly a certain number of transmission channels to base-station-specific operations and maintenance signalling and to transceiver-specific telecommunication signalling; and (504) allocating dynamically, using in-band signalling, a necessary number of transmission channels to packet data transfer, the amount of packet data varying according to the modulation and coding scheme used on a Um interface.

  • Patent number: 6247150
Abstract: The invention relates to packet transfer over a radio path in accordance with the ARQ protocol. It is based on the idea that instead of repeating in the retransmission the same bursts, i.e. the same information contained in the bursts in the same order, the order of the information is changed. This is done in such a way that the retransmission is not sent from one retransmission to another similarly interleaved, but the interleaving is changed. As a result, the content of the part that was incorrectly received in the previous transmission has been transferred to a new location. Hence, when the soft values of the channel corrector are combined, the probability of correct reception of this part in the retransmission greatly increases. Thereby the probability for error-free detection of the entire data packet notwithstanding the interference in the radio path is high.

  • Patent number: 5978675
Abstract: For measuring the disturbance level of a base station that has at least one frequency hopping receiver and a way of measuring the signal level of signals received by the receiver, a free traffic channel is allocated. The allocated channel is caused to hop sequentially through all the frequency channels that the base station uses for reception, while signal levels of received signals are measured, and the results are transmitted to an operator. The base station also is provided with a site test and measurement unit, which is used for comparably measuring and reporting results in regard to frequency channels that the base station uses for transmission.
