  • Patent number: 4462783
Abstract: A mechanism for the program-controllable exchange of injection molding dies in the die closing unit of an injection molding machine, comprising a translation table with two die emplacements which are alternatingly movable into transverse alignment with the die clamping space, for horizontal transfer of a die assembly. The transfer movement is produced by a compact roller chain drive with drive pins engaging recesses in a drive rack. The die assemblies have standardized back plates for positioning and guidance of the die assembly by means of aligned guide faces on the translation table and on a guide shelf of the die closing unit. Each die emplacement has a separate drive rack which entrains a die assembly. The drive racks are restrained against movement, when outside the transfer position.

  • Patent number: 4435991
Abstract: A potentiometer drive for the displacement transducer of a reciprocating unit which uses a timing belt to drive the rotary potentiometer and where one belt pulley serves as a control disc to which the drive shaft of the rotary potentiometer is coupled in a direct rigid connection. The coupling connection is obtained by means of a coupling collet which clamps the end portion of the potentiometer drive shaft to a hollow hub of control disc and the latter to the inner races of two ball bearings. The potentiometer housing is blocked against rotation in a "floating" configuration, using a radial pin on the housing which engages a stationary retaining fork in such a way that only circumferential antirotation forces are transmittable to the potentiometer housing.

  • Patent number: 4386626
Abstract: In order to correct non-linearities inherently existing in the relation between the value of a hydraulic fluid parameter controlled by a proportional valve and an operating signal controlling the valve, in an arrangement in which the setting of the valve is controlled by effecting a comparison between the operating signal and a feedback signal representing the valve movement, a memory is provided to modify one of those signals prior to comparison in a manner to compensate for such non-linearities.

  • Patent number: 4380427
Abstract: A hydraulic actuator assembly for a push-type die closing unit of an injection molding machine capable of producing rapid die opening and closing movements with a small volume of pressurized fluid and an elevated die closing pressure in the closed die position, the assembly comprising a central power cylinder with a selectively bypassable power piston and two parallel, diametrally oppositely arranged single-acting travel cylinders. The low-pressure space on the forward side of the power piston is open to the pressure spaces of the two travel cylinders, and the total effective area of these pressure spaces is larger, by a relatively small amount, than the area of the high-pressure space to the rear of the power piston, said small amount determining the fluid volume necessary for the opening travel. A stationary plunger cooperates with a central bore in the rear portion of the power piston rod to produce a small pressure space for the closing travel.

  • Patent number: 4373886
Abstract: An apparatus for the production of marbled articles by injecting into the injection molding die of an injection molding machine two confluent streams of plastic raw material of different hue or color which are supplied from two injection units, via separate pulsation channels which open into a common nozzle channel, just ahead of the mold cavity. The plastic raw materials flowing in the two pulsation channels are subjected to an intermittant and alternatingly pulsating advance by means of feed thrust pulsation controls which generate an intermittant advance of the plastification screws of the injection units. At the junction between the two pulsation channels may be arranged a pulsation chamber with oppositely oriented material entry ports which are alternatingly closed by a reciprocating pulsating element which moves with the pulsating plastic streams.

  • Patent number: 4373890
Abstract: A mechanical interlock mechanism for the safety cover of the die closing unit of an injection molding machine which has an arresting rod attached to the movable die carrier frame and extending rearwardly through a stationary cylinder head plate, where an arresting unit encloses a pair of arresting jaws with attached cam followers. The latter are engaged by a control rod which is connected to the safety cover by means of a control linkage. The jaws are forcibly closed, in opposition to jaw opening springs, and butting of the arresting jaw ridges against the arresting rod collars is limited to one jaw only, as a result of an axial offset between the arresting jaw ridges, in connection with a certain minimal pitch of the arresting rod collars and a floating arrangement of the jaw closing assembly. The latter is spring-biased towards one side.

  • Patent number: RE30934
Abstract: A hydraulic drive for the die closing unit of an injection molding machine in which at least one power cylinder and power piston with a coaxially attached auxiliary cylinder opens and closes the molding die by executing the opening and closing travel with a differential piston action in the power cylinder and/or with the auxiliary cylinder, while valve-closable bypass channels in the power piston are kept open. The closing of these channels switches the drive from an accelerated travel mode to a high-pressure die clamping mode.An annular valve plunger cooperates with a valve seat on the power piston to open and close the bypass channels, several alternatives of guiding and hydraulically moving the valve plunger being contemplated.
