  • Patent number: 5482452
Abstract: In a injection molding unit for use in an injection molding machine for processing synthetic material a driving unit is provided for axially displacing the injection molding unit in a direction of an injection axis. An injection unit, symmetrically arranged with respect to the injection axis, is provided for axially driving a rotatable feed screw placed inside a plasticizing cylinder. The injection unit is connected with an injection bridge. Since the driving unit is also arranged symmetrically with respect to the injection axis and is integrated in the injection molding unit, it is possible to realize a moment free nozzle contact point and a compact injection molding unit in a simple constructional way.

  • Patent number: 5433594
Abstract: In an injection molding unit for use in an injection molding machine for processing synthetic materials a coupling device is applied for coupling the feed screw with a spindle by means of an axial locking device subject to the rotational movement. The locking elements of the axial locking device are received in a seat and are provided with several threaded bolts, which are connected to first bore holes of the spindle and are inclinedly arranged opposite to a plane laid through the axis. That way, in spite of its simple construction, a coupling device easy to maintain and reasonable with respect to the price is created.

  • Patent number: 5388983
Abstract: An injection molding machine includes an injection unit defining a horizontal injection axis and a plasticizing cylinder centered and movable along the injection axis. The injection unit is movably mounted in a horizontal shifting direction transversely to the horizontal injection axis to a plurality of injecting positions, and selectively discharges plastic material out of the plasticizing cylinder along the horizontal injection axis on a plurality of parallel paths, into a central gating of a first injection mold and an offcenter gating of a second injection mold. A stationary mold carrier carries the injection molds, faces the injection unit and is provided with an enlarged opening in the shifting direction for receiving the plasticizing cylinder in each of the injecting positions. A drive unit moves the plasticizing cylinder along the injection axis into and out of engagement with one of the injection molds when mounted on the mold carrier, for injecting the synthetic material into the gatings.

  • Patent number: 5375993
Abstract: A plasticizing assembly for use in an injection molding machine for processing synthetic materials having a plasticizing cylinder at which a nozzle body is mounted and that is provided with a rotatable feed screw disposed in a cylindrical chamber with an inside diameter substantially corresponding to the diameter of the feed screw. The inside diameter of the nozzle body section is tapered to the inside diameter of the nozzle channel, taking as starting point the rear end diameter in a transition section between the plasticizing cylinder and the nozzle body. A chamber is provided in the transition section between the plasticizing cylinder and the nozzle body for spatial fixing of an adapter, which has an outlet transversely disposed with respect to an injection axis and which adapts the inside diameter of the chamber to the rear end diameter of the nozzle body. In such an arrangement, the plasticizing cylinder can be changed without necessarily changing the nozzle body, too.

  • Patent number: 5360332
Abstract: The synthetic material can be injected into the mold carrier, which can be selectively mounted with injecting molds, by an injection molding unit shiftable in horizontal direction transversely with respect to the injection axis. When shifting the injection molding unit the ending sections of the drive unit are received in seats of a seat support movable at the mold carrier. The shifting device engages at the mold carrier and in the region of the seat support. Besides, the injection molding unit is freely displaceable into shifting direction. That is how a shifting of the injection molding unit in a cost-saving and simple way is achieved, meeting all demands arising during the injection process.

  • Patent number: 5332383
Abstract: An injecting unit for use in an injection molding machine comprises an arrangement for locking an axially movable plasticizing cylinder to a carrying block and for locking a feed screw to a motor for-rotating the feed screw, which is adapted to be coupled to the motor in that the feed screw is inserted into a profiled coupling section of the motor. The feed screw is axially displaceable for injecting the plastic material. The plasticizing cylinder is adapted to be locked at a stop of the carrying block by screw threads, which are provided on the plasticizing cylinder and are centered on the longitudinal axis of the cylinder, and a nut, which is screwed on the screw threads and rotatable by a drive engaging the periphery of the nut. When the plasticizing cylinder has thus been locked, the feed screw is locked to the feed screw motor. As a result, the plasticizing cylinder and the feed screw can reliably be locked and unlocked by simple arrangement, which can be automatically controlled.

  • Patent number: 5253998
Abstract: The strokes performed in the direction of the injection axis by a valve-actuating cylinder disposed near the rear portion of the plasticizing cylinder are transformed by a motion-deflecting lever into opening and closing movements of the valve needle. The motion-deflecting lever is disposed within the protective skeleton, which surrounds the plasticizing cylinder. The lever is pivoted to the skeleton by a supporting pivot assembly. The valve needle extends rearwardly to a location which is radially aligned with the feed screw when it is in its foremost position. The valve needle extends in a needle-guiding bore, which is formed in the plasticizing cylinder and has a relatively wide rear portion having an open rear end at a location which is radially aligned with the back flow valve when the feed screw is in its foremost position.

  • Patent number: 5234337
Abstract: The coupling means of the assembly comprise machine-side coupling parts, which are movable by means of hydraulic cylinders into coupling engagement with the mold-side coupling parts secured to the sections of the injection mold. As a result, the movable mold section is provided with a coupling for connecting the mold to supply lines for a performance of auxiliary operations in both mold sections and the stationary mold section is provided with a coupling for conducting a fluid for the temperature control of both mold sections. Because the coupling for the temperature control and the coupling for any auxiliary operations to be performed in the injection mold are separated from each other, the expenditure involved in the coupling equipment can be adapted to the current requirements of a potential buyer and nevertheless it is possible to effect a temperature control of the injection mold also when it is outside the clamping region of the injection molding machine.

  • Patent number: 5223281
Abstract: By an injecting unit, which is horizontally shiftable at right angles to the injection axis, plastic material is adapted to be injected into injection mold sections which can selectively be fixed to a stationary mold carrier. The moldside ends of piston rods of the advance-retract cylinders of the injecting unit are contained in and adapted to be fixed to sleeves provided on a sleeve carrier, which is slidably mounted on the mold carrier. Between the sleeves, the sleeve carrier is formed with an opening for receiving the plasticizing cylinder of the injecting unit. The sleeve carrier substantially covers the cylinder-receiving opening of the mold carrier in those areas which are not occupied by the plasticizing cylinder at a time. In such an injection molding machine it is possible to provide injecting units in which the piston rods of the advance-retract cylinders lie in a horizontal plane.

  • Patent number: 5182118
Abstract: In the plasticizing cylinder the plasticized plastic material is transported by a rotating feed screw into a space which is in front of the feed screw and the plastic material is subsequently injected into the injection mold of the injection molding machine by an axial discharge stroke of the feed screw. During that stroke a backflow-preventing valve is effective to seal a high-pressure space from a low-pressure space, which contains the feed screw. The plasticizing cylinder is composed of a cylinder head, which always completely encloses the high-pressure space and the backflow-preventing valve, and a cylinder shank, which encloses the low-pressure space and the feed screw. Even when the feed screw is in its rearmost initial position will the high-pressure space not be adjoined by a joint which leads to the outside of the plasticizing cylinder so that the problems previously encountered in connection with the sealing of the high-pressure space are avoided.

  • Patent number: 5159957
Abstract: The supply and return passages of the apparatus are defined by fittings, each of which defines also a valve passage, which contains a rotary valve for controlling the flow rate in a cooling circuit of the injection molding machine. A valve actuator is detachably mounted on each of said fittings and is operatively connected to said rotary valve. Each of said valve actuators is selectively constituted by a gearmotor housing, which contains a gearmotor for an automatic control of said rotary valve, or by an actuator housing of a manual drive. At least one of said fittings is provided with detachably mounted monitoring means, which comprise a temperature detector and/or a flow-sensing tube and communicate at one end through a tubular port of said fitting with said return passage section thereof and at the other end are provided with a hose coupling for connection to one of said cooling circuits.

  • Patent number: 5157241
Abstract: The temperature control device comprises heat transfer shells, each of which consists of two shell sections, each of which consists of a metal casting, in which a single temperature control element is embedded. The temperature control element has been formed from a tubular blank to comprise at least one loop and is formed with locating surfaces, which are exposed to recesses formed in the inside and outside peripheral surfaces of the shell section. Owing to that design the metal castings may be made by die casting under relatively high injection pressures and with a much smaller wall thickness so that the inside peripheral contacting surfaces of the shell sections can much more snugly contact the plasticizing cylinder or the nozzle and a temperature change can be effected at a higher rate.

  • Patent number: 5129806
Abstract: The hydraulic system comprises a 4/4-way valve, which is adapted to control the velocity of the mold-closing operation and the fluid pressure during said mold-closing movement and to assume three consecutive control positions, in each of which fluid pressure is applied to a stationary piston of an advance-retract cylinder from a first cylinder chamber, which is nearer to the mold. One of said control positions is a differential control position, in which pressure fluid displaced from the second cylinder chamber of said advance-retract cylinder, which second chamber is remote from the mold, is supplied to a pressure conduit through a branch passage, which includes a non-return valve. The differential control position is preceded and succeeded by a transitional control position, in which the pressure fluid displaced from the second cylinder chamber is returned through the 4/4-way valve to a reservoir.

  • Patent number: 5129816
Abstract: The plasticizing and injecting unit comprises at least one hydraulic advance-retract actuator that is provided with external screw threads, which are screwed into internal screw threads of a bore formed in a carrier and supply block. Means for locking the advance-retract actuator in the bore in that the interengaging screw threads are wedged against each other comprise a plurality of lock screws, which are parallel to the injection axis and disposed on a circle that surrounds the bore in which the actuator is received. The screws can be tightened to different degrees so that the carrier and supply block and the advance-retract actuator are biased in mutually opposite senses and any deviations from a coaxial arrangement of the interengaging screw threads can thus arbitrarily be changed in its magnitude and direction. As a result, the stresses which result in the overall structure from a deviation from a coaxial arrangement can be minimized by a simple manipulation.
