  • Publication number: 20120088993
Abstract: The present invention provides an electrochemical sensor that employs multiple electrode areas that are exposed for contact with a body fluid, e.g., when the sensor is inserted subcutaneously into a patient's skin. The exposed electrode areas are arranged symmetrically, such that a symmetrical potential distribution is produced when an AC signal is applied to the sensor. The sensors in accordance with these teachings can advantageously be used with AC signals to determine characteristics of the sensor and thus improve sensor performance. These teachings also provide a biocompatible sensor with multiple reference electrode areas that are exposed for contact with body fluid.

  • Publication number: 20120088591
Abstract: A first tubular, inner radial annular seam is produced to weld together two hollow cylinders by narrow-gap tungsten inert gas arc welding. Narrow-gap metal gas-shielded arc welding is used to create another tubular, outer radial annular seam to further weld together both hollow cylinders. In this manner, the rotational axis of the rotor shaft remains vertically aligned throughout the entire production method of welding together the shaft parts. In this manner, the required production time can be advantageously reduced and the use of welding filler can be effectively decreased.

  • Publication number: 20120083346
Abstract: A method of testing a fusion weld for a shaft includes producing two shaft subsections, wherein the shaft subsections are symmetrical and faun a cylinder coaxially along the axis of rotation. Core regions of each shaft subsection are removed in order to produce open recesses in the cylinder within remaining tubular webs. The two shaft subsections are positioned coaxially one on top of the other, wherein the two remaining webs are mutually adjacent and the two open recesses form a hollow space. A first tubular ring seam is produced by narrow-gap arc welding and in one of the two shaft subsections a passage from outside into the hollow space is produced. Further, a quality of the first tubular ring seam within the hollow space during and/or after the welding operation is evaluated by a detection device or radiation source which is introduced through the passage into the hollow space.

  • Patent number: 8148293
Abstract: Highly uniform cluster based nanocatalysts supported on technologically relevant supports were synthesized for reactions of top industrial relevance. The Pt-cluster based catalysts outperformed the very best reported ODHP catalyst in both activity (by up to two orders of magnitude higher turn-over frequencies) and in selectivity. The results clearly demonstrate that highly dispersed ultra-small Pt clusters precisely localized on high-surface area supports can lead to affordable new catalysts for highly efficient and economic propene production, including considerably simplified separation of the final product. The combined GISAXS-mass spectrometry provides an excellent tool to monitor the evolution of size and shape of nanocatalyst at action under realistic conditions. Also provided are sub-nanometer gold and sub-nanometer to few nm size-selected silver catalysts which possess size dependent tunable catalytic properties in the epoxidation of alkenes.

  • Patent number: 8146226
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for attaching guide means (106) to a flexible sheet (100), preferably as part of a shading system for a vehicle, and to a device provided therefor. Holding regions (102a, 102b), spaced apart from one another in a Y-direction, of a flexible sheet (100) extending in an X-direction and a Y-direction are spaced apart from one another by being acted upon with a predetermined pretensioning force (Fv) acting in the Y-direction, with the result that a pretension state is achieved. Subsequently, in a further processing state which corresponds to the pretension state or to a pretension state relieved by the amount of a predetermined relief distance (S3) in the Y-direction with respect to the pretension state, guide means (106) extending parallel to one another in the X-direction and spaced apart from one another in the Y-direction are fastened to the sheet (100).
