  • Patent number: 4977361
Abstract: In an X-Y addressable workpiece positioner the workpiece to be positioned, such as a semiconductive wafer to be aligned with a mask image, is coupled to move with a work stage moveable in X and Y direction and having a two-dimensional array of positioning indicia affixed thereto for movement therewith. An enlarged image of a portion of the positioning array is projected onto a relatively stationary sensor stage to derive an output determinative of the X and Y coordinates of the positioning array relative to the position of the sensor. The sensed X and Y coordinates of the positioning array are compared with the X and Y coordinates of a reference positioning address to derive an error output. The work stage is moved in response to the error output for causing the workpiece to be positioned to the reference address.

Abstract: An implant gun for implanting an insert or pellet into or below tissue of an animal. The gun has a body comprising a barrel, a hand grip and a trigger mounted on the hand grip for successive manual firing operations. At least a portion of the barrel defines a guideway along which a series of pellets are movable to present each, in turn, to a discharge position from which it can be discharged from the gun. The body houses discharge and advance mechanisms, with the discharge mechanism being operable by manual operation of the trigger in a firing operation, to discharge from the barrel a pellet presented to the discharge position and the advance mechanism being operable to index the series of pellets along the guideway.

  • Patent number: 4972771
Abstract: This invention concerns a film dampener unit for offset printing presses, with a dampening medium container in which a constant level of dampening medium is maintained, and with a dampener ductor of pan roller dipping into the dampening medium and transferring the dampening medium as a film onto at least one form roller which contacts the printing plate on the plate cylinder, whereby the thickness of the dampening medium film is determined by a metering roller which engages the dampener ductor roller surface in its rotary motion before the same engages the form roller. In order to reduce the number of rollers required for a flexibly operating dampener unit, the dampener ductor of this invention also functions as a dampener vibrator or oscillating ductor, having in addition to a rotation drive, another drive mehcanism which effects an axial back and forth or reciprocating movement.

  • Patent number: 4971123
Abstract: The angle stop has a supporting table pivotally but securably mounted on a stationary table carrier. Means for maintaining the edge of the supporting table facing the working plane of the machine tool at a constant distance relative to the working plane in every angular position of the supporting table are provided. This means includes two opposing side parts rigidly attached to opposite sides of the supporting table each having two opposing through-going openings or slots(guideways) and guide elements connected with the table carrier extending through the through-going openings for securing the supporting table releasably in a particular angular position and for guiding its pivotal motion. This improves the secure contact of workpieces and reduces the risk of accident due to workpieces being drawn into the gap between the contact table and working plane of the machine tool.

  • Patent number: 4970773
Abstract: On a track for electromagnetically levitated vehicles, to adjust and secure side guide rails on a beam-like support member forming the track, after stators are adjusted and fixed to the support member, the side guide rails are held in position relative to the support member. Initially, the guide rails are positioned relative to the track and then are adjusted with respect to a datum plane determined by the lower surfaces of the stators. Next, the guide rails are adjusted horizontally transversely of the track with respect to measuring points fixed to the surface of the support member. Finally, the guide rails are attached to the support member. Apparatus for installing the guide rails includes a plurality of installation truss frames mounting assembly arms for holding the guide rails. Each assembly arm has a holding device for a guide rail and an abutment positionable against a lower surface of the stators.

  • Patent number: 4969255
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for producing metallic heat exchanger tubes having a heat exchange surface that is increased by fins. A rotating tube has helically wound on its outer surface a strip that forms the fins, with this strip being fed to the tube surface under tension, and with the bottom edge of the strip being welded to the tube. The contact surface that exists between the tube and the bottom edge of the strip, and that extends helically on the surface of the tube, is fused exclusively at the surface of the tube with a laser beam that is directed in the region where the strip runs onto the surface of the tube, and that fuses a portion of the tube surface that in the axial direction of the tube corresponds at least to the width of the bottom edge of the strip and in the circumferential direction corresponds approximately to the same amount. At the same time, the laser beam fuses the bottom edge of the incoming strip in the region where the strip runs onto the surface of the tube.

  • Patent number: 4968360
Abstract: The development of sludge in phosphating baths is prevented by continuously diverting a partial volume of the baths into a separate device comprising three open chambers: an oxidation chamber where the solution is treated with an O.sub.2 -containing gas to oxidize the iron (II) of the solution of iron (III), which precipitates as phosphate; a conditioning chamber in which the iron (iii) phosphate precipitate formed in the oxidation chamber is agglomerated into a readily sedimented form; and a sedimentation chamber in which the sediment formed in the conditioning chamber is separated from the remaining liquid phosphating solution. This solution is then replenished with phosphate layer-forming components, and the replenished solution is subsequently recycled to the phosphating bath.

  • Patent number: 4966675
Abstract: The polarizable electrode in an electrolyte comprises an electrically conductive conductor, advantageously metal or carbon, which is surrounded by an inner layer made of an electrically conductive plastic, which has a high stability to action by the electrolyte and does not lose its closed structure on insertion of the electrode so that protection of the electrically highly conductive conductor against electrochemical or chemical action is guaranteed. The inner layer is enclosed by an outer layer made of electrically conductive plastic, which loses its closed structure by the electrochemical processes occurring and which expands to a large volume so that the active working surface of the electrode is increased by the desired porosity.
