  • Patent number: 5815135
Abstract: A motion detector detects a line where change of image data has occurred, and a line selector selects the line where display is to be updated, based on the motion detection. A .gamma. converter performs .gamma. conversion on the input data with a predetermined .gamma. value and obtains converted data. A memory controller partially updates display on a display device with display data of the line selected by the line selector, among display data suitable to the display device generated based on the converted data. If the .gamma. value of the .gamma. converter is switched, the display data generated based on the converted data obtained from .gamma. conversion after the switchover of the .gamma. value display on the display device is updated for at least one frame.

  • Patent number: 5757352
Abstract: A display apparatus includes a display panel having a scanning line and an information line and circuitry for generating and outputting image information periodically. A horizontal synchronizing signal determining a single period of the image information is output sequentially, with an interval between sequential outputtings. A writing time necessary for writing image information on the scanning line is determined and the writing time is divided by a corresponding interval of the horizontal synchronizing signal to obtain a quotient. The quotient is then rounded up into the next highest integer N. The apparatus then calculates a thinned out value (N-1), thins out the image information during a time corresponding to a number of periods based on the thinned out value and transfers the thinned out image information to the display panel. As a result, proper synchronization between the supply of data and the scanning of the display is provided, even for low frequency, high definition scanning.

  • Patent number: 5699075
Abstract: The present invention provides a display driving apparatus which can improve a picture quality by smoothly switching a partial writing mode and a refresh driving mode and also provides an information processing system having such a display driving apparatus. When a controller 7 discriminates the partial writing mode by a discrimination signal PH/RL, the controller generates a picture data request signal BUSY to a graphic controller 6, reads out data on a data line PIX DATA, and sets a scan address into a driver controller 12 in accordance with the value of the read data. When the discrimination signal PH/RL is switched from the partial writing mode to the refresh driving mode, in order to restart the refresh driving mode, the controller 7 directly rears a count value of an HSYNC counter 17 and calculates a scan address of the next refresh data in accordance with such a value and sets into the driver controller 12.

  • Patent number: 5592191
Abstract: A display apparatus includes a display panel having a matrix electrode arrangement of intersecting scanning lines and data lines, a driving voltage generating means for supplying voltages to be applied to scanning lines to a scanning line driving means for driving scanning lines, as well as voltages to be applied to data lines to a data line driving means for driving data lines, at least one voltage level being supplied to the scanning and to the data line driving means, a switching means for turning on or off an electrical connection between the driving voltage generating means to a power source for supplying or disconnecting power to the driving voltage generating means, and a control means for controlling the scanning line driving means and the data line driving means such that a scanning signal voltage is applied to a scanning line to scan the same while a data signal voltage corresponding to image data is applied to a data line when the switching means is on, such that the one voltage level is supplied t

  • Patent number: 5420603
Abstract: A technique for driving a liquid crystal apparatus having an effective display area and a non-display unit area is provided. When a bistable liquid crystal element is used, a voltage must be continuously applied to the non-display unit area to maintain a uniform white or black display state. Durability of the non-display unit is particularly desired. In this invention, the non-display unit includes first and second stripe electrodes disposed perpendicular to each other. First and second drive bipolar pulses are respectively applied to the first and second stripe electrodes with a phase difference between these bipolar pulses.

  • Patent number: 5374941
Abstract: A display control apparatus includes a frame memory for storing first frame video data on CRT image signals at least for one frame portion, a storage device for comparing the first frame video data with displaying pixel data at the same image position in video data for a subsequent frame to identify changes in the display contents on a per pixel basis and for storing address information of the changed pixels on a per pixel or per scanning line basis. Also included is a transfer device for reading displaying pixel data from the frame memory on a per pixel or per scanning line basis, based on the address information, and for transferring the data to a display driving unit of the liquid crystal display device. With this display control apparatus, a highly precise flickerless image display is implemented without any dispersion.
