  • Patent number: 4907031
Abstract: An image forming apparatus capable of interrupting a copying operation for a priority copying operation includes a first key for entering a desired number of copies, a second key for causing the start of a copying operation, a third key for interrupting a first copying operation initiated in accordance with operation of the first and second keys in order to enable a second or priority copying operation, a fourth key for stopping the first copying operation and control circuitry responsive to the various key operations. Operation of the third key to interrupt a copying operation causes a memory to store the number of repetitions needed to complete the first copying operation. The memory also stores the number of copies for the second copying operation upon operation of the first key after operation of the third key prior to the start of the first copying operation. Operation of the second key after completion of the second copying operation completes or commences the first copying operation.

  • Patent number: 4763164
Abstract: An image forming apparatus capable of feeding or transporting recording medium of different sizes through the image forming path. A discriminating device determines whether or not a recording medium has reached a predetermined position in the transport path and a detecting member detects the recording medium a predetermined time thereafter to identify the size of the recording medium. If the recording medium is detected within the predetermined time, it is identified as being of a particular size. When the medium is detected during a time period different from the predetermined time period, the medium is identified as being of a size smaller than the particular size. The image formation operation is controlled as a function of the size identification of the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 4685796
Abstract: A diagnostic program determines whether the machine is in a proper or improper operational state, and the scanning device is moved to a predetermined position in response to the positioning program after the entry of the key inputs by the entry program, and a copying operation is then enabled. The key entry program is executed after the machine starts, and the positioning program is executed before the start of the scanning device and after the key input entry, wherein the scan is inhibited from exposing the recording medium when the diagnostic program determines that the state of the machine is improper, or when the positioning program determines that the scanning device is not in the predetermined position. Also, the scan is enabled for exposing the recording medium when the diagnostic program determines that the state of the machine is proper and the positioning program determines that the scanning device is in the predetermined position.

  • Patent number: 4675533
Abstract: An image reading apparatus has a number of image sensors, a shading correction circuit, a linking circuit, and a CPU. The shading correction circuit has a RAM, a multiplication ROM, an address comparator, and a selector for correcting each pixel output. The linking circuit has shift memories for storing one-line image signals from the image sensors. The CPU controls addressing of the shift memories by means of address selectors and read/write counters. An image signal corresponding to a marker for linking output signals from the image sensors is replaced by an immediately preceding image signal. The adverse effect on shading correction of the marker for such linking is eliminated.
