  • Patent number: 7142259
Abstract: Before starting the regular display in a liquid crystal display device of the bend alignment type, it is necessary to transition all the pixel regions in the entire display portion uniformly from splay alignment into bend alignment. However, conventionally, when applying a simple ac voltage, the transition sometimes does not take place, and when it does take place, the transition time is very long, and display defects due to alignment defects tend to occur. In the method for driving a liquid crystal display device with OCB cells according to the present invention, a step of applying between an electrode 22 and a pixel electrode 23 an ac voltage superimposed with a bias voltage, and a step of applying zero voltage or a low voltage to the substrates are repeated in alternation preceding the begin of the regular display operation and the regular display operation is carried out after all pixels have transitioned into bend alignment.

  • Patent number: 6924824
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of driving an active matrix display device in which one frame comprises a plurality of sub-frames each comprising a write time and a hold time and gray scale driving is brought about by the cumulative effect of the hold times. Gray scale display driving is carried out by randomly scanning scan lines other than one predetermined scan line in a predetermined sequence in the hold time of each sub-frame corresponding to the one predetermined scan line so that any one sub-frame is not written to any one scan line more than once and one frame is such that in each of the scan lines, the writings and the hold time of each of the sub-frames is ensured to bring about gray scale display. Through this means, the frame period is shortened.

  • Patent number: 6903732
Abstract: An image display device comprises a first storage device (4) for storing an image data, an image processor (8) for reducing the number of bits of the image data, a second storage device (10) for storing the image data after being processed, a display device (12) for displaying the image data after being processed, a driver (14) for driving the display device (12) and a controller (16) for controlling the operation of the driver (14). The controller (16) determines whether the image data stored in the first storage device (4) is dynamic or static, and, in the case of a static image, after storing the signals corresponding to one frame of the image data in the second storage device (10), operates only the second storage device (10), the driver (14) and the display device (12). Thereby, reduction of power consumption can be achieved while maintaining high image quality.

  • Patent number: 6901232
Abstract: On surfaces of insulating layers 1b and 1c of a transportation member 1, a protective layer 1d having a volume resistivity of 1010 ?·cm to 1017 ?·cm is so laminated that a sum of thickness of the insulating layers 1b and 1c is less than intervals between adjacent ones of progressive wave generating electrodes 2. With this arrangement, it is ensured that a progressive wave electric field generated by the progressive wave generating electrodes 2 is exposed beyond a surface of the transportation member 1. Even if developer T and the transportation member 1 contact each other, a surface potential of the transportation member 1 is not changed. Moreover, firm adhering of the toner T to the surface of the transportation member 1 is prevented. It is therefore possible to certainly transport the developer T to a development position always stably.
