Patent number: 5869890Abstract: A Ceramic Bonding Copper (CBC) substrate used in semiconductor modules includes a ceramic plate having foil-shaped copper plates bonded to the ceramic plate by the direct copper bonding method. A circuit pattern is formed on one of the copper plates. The ceramic plate is fabricated by sintering at high temperature an alumina powder compact containing zirconia and one or more of the following additives: yttria, calcia, magnesia, and ceria. The flexural strength and the thermal conductivity of the alumnina ceramic plate of the invention are remarkably improved, facilitating a reduction in the thickness of the ceramic plate. The reduction in thickness of the CBC substrate further improves the ability of the semiconductor device to radiate heat and therefore increases the current carrying capability of the semiconductor device.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1997Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Assignee: Fuji Electric Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masaharu Nishiura, Akira Morozumi, Tomio Shimizu, Katsumi Yamada, Shigemasa Saito

Patent number: 5682362Abstract: The invention is directed at ensuring stable track accessing despite the presence of backlash in a pickup drive mechanism, and at providing a precise track accessing operation not affected by the relative position or relative speed between pickup and carriage at the time a track access start instruction is issued. To achieve this, when the track access start instruction is issued in a tracking condition in which the pickup is following a track on a recording medium, the carriage is caused to begin to move in a track access direction by the action of a coarse actuator, while the pickup is still kept on track of the recording medium by means of a fine actuator.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1996Date of Patent: October 28, 1997Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Seiichi Suzuki, Hidefumi Ishibashi, Takaharu Shigeta, Katsumi Yamada

Patent number: 5361973Abstract: A solder is disposed outside a joint area without putting a solder foil in an area to be joined or performing preparatory soldering, and soldering is performed by making the melted solder permeate the joint area by a capillary phenomenon. Further, one member is supported by a solder, and a joint solder layer of desired thickness is obtained by use of a jig for supporting the one and the other member at a predetermined distance therebetween when the solder is melted. Further, if a solder outside a joint area is made to stand vertically in its longitudinal direction, and melted at such a state, pressure caused by self-weight is given to the melted solder, and oxide of the solder surface is separated from the melted solder, so that it is possible to further reduce the generation of voids.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1993Date of Patent: November 8, 1994Assignee: Fuji Electric Co., Ltd.Inventors: Tadayoshi Ishii, Katsumi Yamada, Kazuyuki Makita
