  • Patent number: 4739485
Abstract: A vehicle speed control apparatus is provided which includes a vehicle speed sensor, a setting switch, a memory, a comparator, a timer, a quick responser and an actuator. The vehicle speed sensor detects and outputs the actual vehicle speed into the memory and the comparator. A driver operates the setting switch when the actual vehicle speed equals the desired vehicle speed. The setting switch outputs an initial signal for automatic control of the vehicle speed to the memory and the quick responser. The value of the desired vehicle speed is set in the memory which outputs a desired vehicle speed signal to the comparator and the timer. The comparator determines a difference between the actual vehicle speed and the desired vehicle speed, and outputs a manipulation signal into the actuator in accordance with this difference.

  • Patent number: 4688450
Abstract: A method and system for shift control in an automatic transmission for a vehicle, wherein, during shifting, engine torque is changed to thereby maintain the shift characteristics satisfactorily, and wherein at least engine torque control in association with 1st shifting is stopped when a 2nd shifting command is emitted before 1st shifting is completed. When only the engine torque control in association with 1st shifting is stopped, thereafter, only the engine torque control in association with 2nd shifting can be performed, so that unnecessary torque control can be dispensed with. Furthermore, when engine torque controls in association with not only the 1st shifting but also the 2nd shifting are stopped, an unnecessary change in the engine torque control can be dispensed with in the case of shifting in which the shifting operation is not substantially performed.

  • Patent number: 4606425
Abstract: A vehicle speed control apparatus for automatically maintaining the vehicle speed of an automobile at a desired speed without the operation of the accelerator pedal, which apparatus includes an increase switch and a speed-increase means for continuously increasing the opening degree of the throttle valve when the increase switch is operated. When the increase switch is operated, the desired speed changes in response to the increasing actual speed of the automobile. The desired speed is finally determined to be the value of the actual vehicle speed just before the increase switch returns to the non-operating condition.

  • Patent number: 4535865
Abstract: A cruise control system for an automotive vehicle, which automatically controls the throttle valve opening to maintain the vehicle speed constant without a driver's operation of the accelerator pedal once the vehicle speed is set to a desired value, is designed so that acceleration at the time of operating an increase set switch or resume switch is increased to ensure a comfortable drive while ascending a long slope. To this end, the cruise control system is provided with an overdrive controller which releases the overdrive at the time of operating the increase set switch and which resumes the overdrive at the time of releasing the operation of the increase set switch, or an overdrive controller which releases the overdrive at the time of operating the resume switch when the vehicle speed at that time is sufficiently lower than the set speed and which resumes the overdrive when the vehicle speed has been restored substantially to the set speed.

  • Patent number: 4516652
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling the speed of an automobile in which the speed is maintained at a preset speed when a resume switch is manipulated. A memory stores data corresponding to the preset speed. The difference between the preset speed and the actual speed of the automobile is detected and this difference is employed to switch the reduction ratio of transmission gears of the automobile. The reduction ratio is increased when the actual speed becomes a predetermined speed less than the preset speed and when a predetermined condition is established. The predetermined condition is, for example, a condition in which the actual speed is less than the predetermined speed, the actual degree of acceleration is less than the predetermined degree of acceleration, or a predetermined time period elapses after the resume switch is manipulated.

  • Patent number: 4421192
Abstract: When a load to an engine of a vehicle running at a constant speed increases and a vehicle speed slows down below a preset vehicle speed for a constant speed running condition, a gear of an automatic transmission is shifted down. A shift-down signal for causing the gear to shift down is held for a predetermined time to prevent the shift-up of the gear in cases when the vehicle speed momentarily recovers the preset vehicle speed.

  • Patent number: 4402376
Abstract: A set switch 28 is connected via a first gate 34 to an analog switch 16, a speed incrementing circuit 36, and a latch circuit 30, but is connected directly to a second gate 22. When set switch 28 is actuated, a setting signal is passed through the first gate 34, unless the gate is closed by a signal from an upper-speed limit switch 38, thereby actuating analog switch 16 to pass vehicle speed signals from detector 10 to a storage device 18, and actuating latch circuit 30 to partially enable second gate 22. When set switch 28 is released, analog switch 16 closes, thereby storing the present vehicle speed signal in device 18 as a desired speed signal, and second gate 22 is fully enabled, thereby passing an actual speed/desired speed difference signal from comparator 20 to a speed controller 26.
