  • Publication number: 20060110092
Abstract: The present invention provides a polarization mode dispersion compensator comprising: a compensating portion which includes a first polarization controller which performs polarization conversion on light propagating along an optical transmission line and a DGD (Differential Group Delay) emulator which adds a DGD to the light which is polarization-converted by said first polarization controller, said compensating portion being for compensating polarization mode dispersion which occurs in the light while the light propagates along the optical transmission line; a second polarization controller for performing polarization conversion on the light, of which the polarization mode dispersion is compensated, so that a state of polarization of the light can be one linear polarization; a polarization beam splitting portion for splitting the light, which is polarization-converted by said second polarization controller, into the one linear polarization and an other linear polarization which is orthogonal to the one linea

  • Publication number: 20050276178
Abstract: In the sample-and-hold circuit for laser power detection signal and servo signal, the sample-and-hold operation timing is controlled to set by monitoring the output from the sample-and-hold circuit. In the invention of this application, the sample-and-hold timing is changed to be larger or smaller than the estimated timing, and reference is made to the result of the monitoring, thus determining the optimum timing. The sample-and-hold timing is controlled to fix to this optimum value.

  • Patent number: 6909506
Abstract: An object is to accurately measure the Stokes parameters, without the occurrence of polarization fluctuations or PDL during the splitting of the incident light. When the incident light is made incident on a first-stage prism, the light is split into two first splitting light rays. Next, the first split light rays are respectively incident on a pair of prisms of a second stage. Each of the pair of first split light rays is split into two rays by a second-stage prism, to obtain four second split light rays.

  • Patent number: 6560379
Abstract: Between a lens of a collimator and a retro-reflector as a total reflecting element, a prism, a polarizer, a Faraday rotator and a linear retarder are arranged in the order. The core/clad section serving as an input optical fiber of the collimator has its optical axis coincident with an optical axis of the lens. When the light exited the collimator reaches the retro-reflector, the outgoing light reflects deviated by a spacing Y, the returning light of which is refracted by the prism and incident on the core/clad serving as an output optical fiber of the collimator.

  • Publication number: 20020110346
Abstract: An optical variable attenuator constituting an optical component comprises a polarizer, a Faraday rotator, a linear phase shifter, and an analyzer which are successively arranged in the direction of light propagation. The thickness of the linear phase shifter in the direction of light propagation and the angle which the crystal optical axis of the linear phase shifter forms with the transmission axis of the analyzer are set as appropriate so that the linear phase shifter compensates for wavelength and temperature dependences of the Faraday rotator, permitting the optical variable attenuator to exhibit favorable light-attenuation-wavelength and temperature characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5487944
Abstract: The invention is to a non-woven fabric sheet for a storage battery separator. The sheet has an excellent property of holding electrolyte by using conjugate fibers having a specific sectional form. The sheet comprises an ethylene copolymer having a specific structure which can introduce a desirable amount of sulfo groups efficiently under mild reaction condtions. Conjugate fibers having a split sectional form include a first component and a second component having a radial arrangement. The conjugate fibers are obtained by forming an ethylene based random copolymer containing a unit represented by a formula --CH.sub.2 CH(COOH)--, with polypropylene. Subsequently, a non-woven fabric sheet of a thermally bonding type is obtained by mixing the conjugate fibers with polypropoylene fibers. Subsequently, a non-woven fabric sheet for a storage battery separator is obtained by sulfonating the non-woven fabric sheet using gas such as SO.sub.3 to form a unit of the formula --CH.sub.2 C(SO.sub.3 H)(COOH)--.
