    Abstract: A columnar vortex generator is set in a duct communicating with an intake pipe of an engine, to extend across the airflow in the duct. A vortex sensor is arranged in a downstream surface of the vortex generator. The sensor generates a signal corresponding to the frequency of Karman vortexes generated at the downstream side of the vortex generator. A turbulence generator for generating a turbulent flow in that part of intake air flowing against the vortex generator is set at the upstream side of the vortex generator. The vortex generator consists of stationary and movable units. The movable unit is moved in accordance with elongation/contraction of a bellows so as to vary the typical dimension D of the surface of the vortex generator against which air flows.

    Abstract: A compact, piezoelectrically operated pressure modulator for antiskid control of a hydraulic braking system. In its simplest form, the modulator comprises a body in which are formed a main hydraulic passage adapted to connect the master cylinder to a wheel cylinder, and a pressure relief passage for relieving the pressure in the wheel cylinder. The main passage is opened and closed by a normally open shutoff valve operated by a piezoelectric actuator, and the relief passage is controlled by a normally closed shutoff valve operated by an associated piezoelectric actuator. Adjusting mechanisms are provided to adjust the axial position of the piezoelectric elements of the actuators in such a manner that the valve clearance of the shutoff valves is adjusted to an optimal amount.

    Abstract: An antiskid control device including a main line system, a first oil hydraulic source generating a pressurized oil and supplying the oil to wheel cylinders through the main line system, a subline system, and a second oil hydraulic source generating a pressurized oil and supplying the oil to the wheel cylinders through the subline system. The main line system and the first oil hydraulic source are provided for a usual braking operation. The subline system and the second oil hydraulic source are provided for an antiskid control. The main line system has a cut-off valve which opens the main line system in the usual braking operation and closes the main line system in the antiskid control. The subline system has a switching valve which opens and closes the subline system according to a locking condition of the wheel during the antiskid control. The second oil hydraulic source generates a pressurized oil when a locking condition is sensed.

This holder is composed of a pair of insulating plates made of an electric insulating material. Both ends of the heating element are formed with projections. One of the insulating plates is formed with recesses for receiving both ends of the heating element in coincidence with the shape of both ends of the heating element.

    Abstract: An improved power steering system for vehicles is utilized in association with a variable discharge pump for supplying pressure fluid to one of both cylinder chambers divided by a piston of a power cylinder, selectively. The power steering system includes a variable throttle provided in a fluid supplying passage between the pump and the cylinder chamber. Upon rotation of a steering shaft, an adjusting member adjusts a cross sectional area of the variable throttle in accordance with the variable steering torque. The power steering system also includes a discharge quantity controller for controlling a discharge quantity of the pressure fluid of the pump so that a pressure differential between up and downstreams of the variable throttle is constant. The discharge quantity of the pressure fluid of the pump is changed to be suitable to the any variable steering torque.

    Abstract: A variable capacity radial piston pump is disclosed, in which the radially outer ends of the pistons are constrained by engagement with the radially inner surface of a cam ring assembly that includes a radially inner ring, a radially outer ring, and rollable bearings between the inner and outer rings. The cam ring is shiftably mounted in the pump housing so that its magnitude of eccentricity relative to the pump rotor can be varied in order to vary the magnitude of suction and compression forces generated in the working fluid in the rotor chambers associated with the respective pistons. Several mechanisms for affecting the cam ring/rotor eccentricity variation are shown and described.

The reference is changed according to the detecting signal which is produced when the windshield is in good condition against the fogging after a fog removing apparatus has been actuated to remove the fog attached on the windshield, so that the fogging condition is detected in accuracy independently of the contamination of the optoelectronic system or the like.

The vortex generator comprises a stationary member and a movable member which is displaceable in relation to the stationary member. The movable member is displaced by the expanding or contracting of bellows in response to changes in pressure and temperature of the fluid to thereby vary the characteristic dimension of the vortex generator. The Karman vortex shedding frequency of the vortex generator is measured by a heat-wire type sensor.

    Abstract: A motor-driven radial plunger pump has an outer housing enclosing a motor section and a pump section drivingly connected thereto. The motor section has a motor housing cooperating with the outer housing to define a fluid passage having a fluid inlet adjacent to a part of the motor housing in which a brush unit is disposed. The fluid passage contains a filter element and has a recess disposed upstream thereof and adjacent to motor magnets so that magnetic particles contained in the fluid flow are magnetically adhered to and deposited on the bottom of the recess. The pump section has a rotor with radial plungers slidably disposed in cylinder bores in the rotor. The cylinder bores have radially inner end successively communicated with a suction passage communicated with the fluid passage between the outer and motor housings through feed holes formed in a coupling disc plate drivingly connecting the motor with the rotor.

    Abstract: An antiskid control device including a main line system for usual braking operation, a subline system for an antiskid control, and an oil hydraulic mechanism supplying pressurized oil to the subline system. The oil hydraulic mechanism has an oil hydraulic source constantly generating hydraulic pressure during operation of the engine of the vehicle, an oil hydraulic motor driven by the oil hydraulic source, and an oil hydraulic pump discharging a highly pressurized oil. While the oil hydraulic motor is constantly rotated during the operation of the engine, the oil hydraulic pump is rotated when the rotation of the oil hydraulic motor is transmitted thereto. For this purpose, a mechanism for transmitting the rotation between the motor and the pump is provided.

    Abstract: An automotive wiper control apparatus has an infrared emitting unit outside an occupant compartment, a photodetector unit inside the compartment in optical alignment with the infrared emitting unit, and an electric control for automatically controlling the wiper operation in dependence on the state in which infrared rays emitted by the infrared emitting unit through a predetermined area of the windshield are received by the photodetector unit. The photodetector unit has an infrared transmission plate formed of an infrared transmissive material and carrying infrared shielding layers applied in a striped pattern to one surface of the plate. The infrared transmission plate is disposed in front of a plurality of photodetectors so that a contrast is produced on the photodetectors by the infrared rays passing through the uncoated zones of the plate which are free from the infrared shielding layers. The contrast is varied with variation in the quantity of raindrops on the predetermined area of the windshield.

The impeller is formed therein with a circumferential row of axial apertures with which the axial rods of the joint member loosely engage to transmit the rotation of the motor shaft to the impeller while permitting axial movement of the impeller relative to the motor shaft and the pump housing.

    Abstract: Filter apparatus having a honeycomb structure and a heater for purifying exhaust gases consists of cells or passages defined by porous partition walls. Alternate passages are provided respectively with upstream plugs and downstream plugs. Particulates in exhaust gases are trapped in the honeycomb structure and ignited by the heater. The upstream plugs define spaces upstream thereof in which particulates are trapped in addition to those trapped in the passages having downstream plugs. The heat of burning of the particulates trapped in the spaces facilitates the burning of the particulates trapped in the passages having downstream plugs. Therefore, the exhaust gas particulates trapped and collected in the downstream portion of the structure can also be easily burned to regenerate the structure over its entire length.

Each pulley unit has a stationary pulley part rotatable with a shaft and a movable pulley part disposed to define with the stationary pulley part a circumferentially continuous groove for receiving the V-belt. The movable pulley parts of the pulley units are axially resiliently biased so that the radii of the circle along which the V-belt engages the driving and driven pulley units are varied to change the speed-change ratio of the transmission system.     Abstract: An electrically operated fuel pump device for use in vehicles comprises a regenerative pump component and an electric motor component operatively connected to the regenerative pump component to actuate the same. The regenerative pump component includes a casing defining therein a pump chamber and a closed vane type impeller rotatably disposed within the pump chamber. The impeller has an outer peripheral portion thereof cooperating with the pump chamber to define a pump flow passage. The impeller has in the outer peripheral portion a plurality of circumferentially spaced vane grooves formed in opposite end faces of the impeller. The impeller has its outer diameter within a range of approximately 20-65 mm. A flow passage representative dimension defined by S/l is within a range of approximately 0.4-2 mm where S is a cross-sectional area of the pump flow passage and l is a cross-sectional peripheral length of the outer peripheral portion of the impeller.
