  • Publication number: 20050220678
Abstract: The exhaust gas purifying catalyst-supported member comprises a metal carrier layer and a catalyst layer which includes an exhaust gas purifying catalyst and silicon oxide and is directly formed on a surface of the metal carrier. Silicon oxide is contained in the catalyst layer, and therefore, the adhesion of the catalyst layer to the surface of the metal carrier is excellent, so that the catalyst layer resists peeling from the metal carrier even when subjected to oscillations, such as when the exhaust gas purifying catalyst-supported member is used as a catalyst for purifying an exhaust gas from, for example, an internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 6952295
Abstract: A hologram screen 1 displays an image by diffracting and scattering image light 31 projected from an image projection apparatus 2. An upward/downward light scattering device 13, which scatters light incident from an upward/downward specific angle range spreading obliquely upward or downward, is placed on the image projection apparatus side of a hologram device 12 in the hologram screen 1. A leftward/rightward light scattering device 14, which scatters light incident from a leftward/rightward specific angle range spreading obliquely leftward and rightward, is placed between the hologram device 12 and the scattering device 13. The construction is such that the upward/downward specific angle range contains the incidence angle of the image light 31 on the hologram screen 1, and thus provides a hologram screen having good color reproducibility and which permits viewing of the background.

  • Publication number: 20050157890
Abstract: The present invention provides an active control type noise reducing device that is disposed at a sound barrier and with which can be obtained an excellent noise reduction effect with respect to moving sound sources. Linear array of flat loudspeakers are arranged in ascending order from an incoming side of automobiles towards an outgoing side. Delay times of 0, ?, 2?, . . . , 8? are respectively given in the arrangement order to the linear array of flat loudspeakers. By delaying signals in correspondence to the arrangement order, the wavefront of a control sound can be slanted in a diagonal direction. Namely, “line sound sources”, where sound sources are linearly arranged, arc pseudo-realized.

  • Publication number: 20050084223
Abstract: A polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber 10 includes six thin holes 4a and 4b adjacent to a core 1. Among these holes 4a and 4b, a pair of holes 4b at opposite sides of the core 1 have a diameter greater than that of the other four thin holes 4a, and therefore, the polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber 10 has polarization-maintaining ability. An overclad layer 3 exists around the clad layer 2 which includes a large number of thin holes 4a and 4b around the core 1. The overclad layer 3 includes a pair of marking portions 5 at opposite sides of the core 1. The marking portions 5 are holes which can be seen at positions different from the clad layer 2 when the fiber 10 is viewed from a position right above the fiber 10 in the drawing. In this way, the direction of the polarization plane of the polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber 10 is identified.

  • Publication number: 20050025441
Abstract: A polarization-maintaining optical fiber and absolutely single-polarization optical fiber are provided which enable long distance transmission maintaining a polarization state of signal light. The polarization-maintaining optical fiber includes a core, photonic crystal cladding, and jacket. The photonic crystal cladding is divided into four segments by broken lines from the center to the periphery. Among a plurality of grating holes in a pair of segments opposed to each other with respect to the core, the diameter of grating holes close to the core is greater than the diameter of grating holes in another pair of segments opposed with each other, and than a grating constant.

  • Publication number: 20040151079
Abstract: A suspension supporting a magnetic head is formed by a member different in material from gimbals. As a result, the characteristic of the gimbals minimizing electric power loss in supplying current while sufficiently elastically holding the magnetic head can be compatible with the characteristic of suspension suppressing variation and impact from the outside or rotational displacement although both characteristics are different from each other. This allows the displacement of the magnetic head caused by the vibration and the impact from the outside or the horizontal displacement associated with the vertical displacement of a recording medium to be decreased, so that inductance of the magnetic head can be decreased and recording speed can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6742977
Abstract: An unprocessed substrate is conveyed to a film-processing chamber at the same time a processed substrate is conveyed to a substrate preparation chamber, reducing the substrate processing cycle, thereby increasing the yield per unit time. The substrate preparation chamber has a two-tiered structure for receiving processed substrates and unprocessed substrates. A two-tiered transfer robot allows the substrates to be removed or placed into the preparation and process chambers at the same time, thus decreasing the cycle time for processing a substrate.
