  • Patent number: 6371400
Abstract: A band steel plate winding apparatus comprises a winding drum for winding a band steel plate; unit rolls, and curved surface guides adjacent to the unit rolls, provided along a circumferential surface of the winding drum forwardly and backwardly movably between a winding drum surrounding position and a retreat position, the position of the unit roll relative to the winding drum at the time of entry of the band steel plate being downstream at an angle of about 15 degrees or less from the position of contact between the winding drum and the band steel plate; and ejection nozzles provided in a guide surface of each of the curved surface guides for ejecting a gaseous or liquid fluid at a high speed toward the band steel plate before the band steel plate collides with the curved surface guide. The band steel plate winding apparatus permits high speed winding of a band steel plate while effectively preventing buckling of a front end of the band steel plate, and can avoid a great increase in equipment cost.

  • Patent number: 6345756
Abstract: The invention comprises a continuous hot rolling method in which a rear end portion of a preceding metal block and a fore end portion of a succeeding metal block are cut and the metal blocks are joined to each other by heating and pressing followed by a finish rolling. A region of each metal block is restrained from a clamping position to the end portion thereof in order to prevent a change in level of the metal blocks in heating and pressing the piece. The end portions of the metal blocks can be thus prevented from deformation.

  • Patent number: 6262402
Abstract: According to the invention, the rear end of a preceding metal piece and a front end of a succeeding metal piece are heated, pressed and joined prior to the finishing hot rolling. An alternating magnetic field running through the metal pieces in the thickness direction thereof is generated in an end region on opposed faces of the respective metal pieces to perform heating. Another alternating magnetic field whose direction is reverse with respect to that of the former alternating magnetic field is partially generated in the end region on the opposed faces of the metal pieces and in either a region where the metal pieces exist or a region outside width ends of the metal pieces. This assures a uniform heating of the end region on the opposed faces of the metal pieces over their full width to reliably join the both metal pieces to each other.

  • Patent number: 6218649
Abstract: Method and apparatus for joining metal pieces using induction heating. Metal pieces to be joined are placed end-to-end with a gap between them and induction heated in the thickness portion. To maximize speed and even heating edge-to-edge of the ends, members of a magnetic substance are provided in a gap between the inductor and the piece to be heated, thereby enhancing local heating effect by increasing magnetic flux density. Once heated, the ends are pressed together end-to-end for joining.

  • Patent number: 6184508
Abstract: An apparatus for joining metal pieces using induction heating. Preceding and succeeding metal pieces are followed by a carriage which carries an inductor. The inductor has the ability to move in the longitudinal direction of the metal pieces relative to the carriage to allow the inductor to move more or less upon the preceding or succeeding metal pieces to increase or decrease the induction heating effect, thereby taking into account any thickness variation of the metal pieces and yet still heating them evenly with regard to each other, prior to their being pressed against each other for joining before hot finishing rolling.

  • Patent number: 5758530
Abstract: A hot rolling line is constructed by a pair or a plurality of pairs of rolling rolls disposed opposingly on an upper side and on a lower side of a workpiece (1) to be rolled that is pinched in between the rollers. A descaling apparatus (5) has jet flow nozzles disposed so that two jetted flows, being liquid, gas or plasma, are opposing flows so as to collide with the surface of a strip on the upstream side of the rolling rolls and then collide with each other. The jet flow nozzles are disposed, so as to incline in a direction to face each other so that the angle of inclination is 15.degree. to 60.degree. from the horizontal direction of the strip surface.

  • Patent number: 5390518
Abstract: The invention provides a method for improving the luster of a metal sheet surface without deteriorating the productivity and also in reducing the difference in glossiness between the upper and lower surfaces of the metal sheet at the time of cold-rolling. By making the velocity, after rolling of the metal sheet, equal to or larger than the rotational circumferential velocity of the work rolls, and by rolling the metal sheet with upper and lower work rolls crossed with each other in such manner that an angle of slip scratches left on the metal sheet surfaces becomes 5 degrees or larger and shear deformation in the widthwise direction can be effectively given to the metal sheet just before rolling, thereby improving the surface luster of the metal sheet.

  • Patent number: 5343237
Abstract: In a system for detecting and warning an illegally parked vehicle a television (TV) camera images a prescribed roadside zone where parking is prohibited at a prescribed time interval. A produced still TV image is stored, and a TV image of a prescribed pattern painted on the roadside without any vehicle is stored as a reference image. The still image is compared with the reference image thereby to produce an image which carries information indicative of the presence of a vehicle in the zone and the vehicle presence information image is stored. The move-off of the vehicle is detected by comparing images of the vehicle presence information storage at a prescribed time interval. The vehicle is warned of illegal parking upon detecting that the vehicle does not move off before expiration of a prescribed time.
