  • Patent number: 5105638
Abstract: A rolling method and machine provides for decreasing the rolling load of work rolls of a rolling mill for a given reduction ratio achieved thereby. A pair of pinch rolls upstream of the work rolls have projections that form a large number of recesses in one or both surfaces of a metal workpiece. A lubricating agent is forced into the recesses in the region of contact between the workpiece and the work rolls. As a result, when the workpiece is rolled by the work rolls the lubricating agent is retained in the recesses such that the recesses progressively are flattened, thereby causing the lubricating agent to form a boundary film between the portion of the workpiece being rolled and the work rolls. The recesses are controlled to regulate the dimension of the length of each recess in the direction of rolling of the workpiece, to regulate the inclination of front and rear walls of each recess, and to regulate the total area of the recesses relative to the total surface area of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5060497
Abstract: A pair of dies are provided of which die faces are formed with depressions sequentially brought into engagement with a particular portion of a workpiece as the workpiece rolls between the die faces. By compressing the workpiece while driving the same to roll between the die faces, an excess metal of the workpiece is caused to flow into the depressions sequentially for thereby forming an asymmetrical part of the article.

  • Patent number: 4713277
Abstract: A foamed metal which has an apparent specific gravity of from 0.2 to 0.8 and comprises an aggregate of polygonal closed cells of from 2 to 10 mm in average diameter. The foamed metal is not only light in weight, free of directionality and structurally strong but also excellent in sound-absorbing and electromagnetic shielding properties, and is useful as constructional, structural or functional material. A method for producing the foamed material comprises adding calcium as a thickening agent to molten aluminum or alloy thereof in an amount of from 0.2 to 8% by weight, followed by agitating to adjust the viscosity of the melet, then adding from 1 to 3% by weight of powdered titanium hydride as a foaming agent to the melt, and agitating the melt to effect foaming.

  • Patent number: 4495009
Abstract: A method of cooling band or hoop steels with hollow cooling rolls through which a cooling medium flows to absorb the heat of the steel strips trained about and in contact with the hollow cooling rolls, thereby cooling the steel strips. According to the invention this method is carried out so as to fulfil the following equation (1) with the cooling roll having a diameter D>600 mm when a thickness h of the steel strip is within 0.2.ltoreq.h<0.6 mm,.DELTA.T.sub.S <0.65.multidot..sigma..sub.T.sup.1.5 .multidot..theta..multidot.h.sup.-0.75 (1)and so as to fulfil the following equation (2) with the cooling roll having a diameter D>1,000 mm when a thickness h of the steel strip is within 0.6 mm.ltoreq.h,.DELTA.T.sub.S <1.05.multidot..sigma..sub.T.sup.1.5 .multidot..theta..multidot.h.sup.-0.83 (2)where .DELTA.T.sub.S is temperature fall .degree.C. per one cooling roll, .sigma..sub.T is tensile stress in a lengthwise direction of the steel strip and .theta. is winding angle about the cooling roll.

  • Patent number: 4482485
Abstract: Human urine-origin colony-stimulating factor and kallikrein are separated in pure form, respectively, from an aqueous solution thereof, such as a urinary protein-concentrated solution by subjecting the solution added with a stabilizer such as octyl-phenoxypolyethoxyethanaol or polyethylene glycol both having a molecular weight of 1,000-10,000, to high-performance gel filtration effective in molecular exclusive limit of 10.sup.5 -5.times.10.sup.5 as determined with globular protein.
