  • Patent number: 6646887
Abstract: A removable mechanical attachment system has first and second removable attachment members with each removable attachment member having first and second links. Each link has a base and at least a first extension member extending from one side of the base. The links are secured to respective surfaces of first and second electrical sections with at least one of the extension members of the first and second links of each of the first and second removable attachment members extending past open end faces of the first and second electrical sections. The electrical sections are positioned in a proximate abutting relationship at the open end faces with the extension members extending past the open end faces of the electrical sections overlapping the other extension members of the first and second removable attachment members. • Patent number: 6605547
Abstract: An electrical standoff has a dielectric substrate with opposing horizontal surfaces and at least two opposing vertical end walls. A transmission structure having planar elements is formed on the at least one of the horizontal surfaces with the planar elements of the transmission structure extending to the two opposing vertical end walls. The electrical standoff is formed from a wafer of dielectric material having at least a first transmission structure formed thereon. A low temperature water soluble wax is applied over the transmission structure and a protective covering is placed over the water soluble wax. The wafer is sawn to form the electrical standoff with the electrical standoff having two opposing sawn vertical end walls intersecting the planar elements of the transmission structure. The protective covering and the low temperature water soluble wax are removed from the electrical standoff.

  • Patent number: 5550660
Abstract: A display system (10) or display (12) has a supertwisted nematic liquid crystal cell (30) located between first and second polarizing filters (24, 54) that have respective first (26) and second (56) transmission axes that form respective polar angles (A, D) with a reference plane (28). The first polarizing filter passes a neutral polarized color along the first transmission axis and has another transmission axis (27) orthogonal to the first transmission axis and transmissive of a purple polarized color; the second polarizing filter is of a neutral density type. The cell has first and second electrode structures (32, 34) confining a liquid crystal composition, each having an inner surface with respective liquid crystal alignment directions (38, 40) of inner-surface-contacting directors of the liquid crystal composition forming respective polar angles (B, C) with the reference plane. The second polarizing filter may be associated with a translucent film (64) to reflect light toward the second polarizing filter.

  • Patent number: 5214342
Abstract: A two-dimensional walker assembly for a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) includes a sample holder upon which a sample to be studied is mounted. A walker has a pair of concentric piezoelectric tubes mounted on a base with corresponding concentric mounting tubes mounted on the ends of the concentric piezoelectric tubes. A magnet is mounted within the inner concentric mounting tube to provide a magnetic force for holding the sample holder on the walker. The sample holder has a corresponding piece of magnetically attractive material contained within. Electrical signals are applied to quadrant electrodes that are coated on the inside of the outer and on the outside of the inner piezoelectric tube in such a manner as to cause the concentric piezoelectric tubes to move in opposition to each other so that the sample holder moves laterally.

  • Patent number: 5065203
Abstract: The charge transfer efficiency of a two-phase charge-coupled device cell is enhanced by providing a three-tiered built-in potential in the channel of each cell. Two lower potential tiers form a trenched potential well in the cell for storing charge. A higher potential tier between the trenched potential well of a cell and the potential well of a preceding neighbor cell provides a potential barrier preventing backflow of charge from well-to-well. The potential trench is located at the downstream end of the well adjacent a succeeding neighbor cell of the CCD.

  • Patent number: 4965648
Abstract: A serial-parallel-serial, charged-coupled device includes an array of horizontal rows and columns of closely spaced charge storage cells. Each storage cell is formed by an electrode covering an insulation layer above a semiconductor substrate. The semiconductor substrate of each storage cell includes a channel region for conducting carriers laterally through the storage cell. The channel region of each storage cell included both in a first row of the array and in any column of the array has a tilted potential gradient providing an electric field facilitating charge carrier drift within the channel region in two lateral directions, toward a neighboring storage cell of the first row and also toward a neighboring storage cell of its column.

  • Patent number: 4891826
Abstract: A charge-coupled device comprises a body of semiconductor material having a channel along which charge can be transferred in a predetermined transfer direction by charge carriers of a first polarity, and a plurality of gates over the channel, the gates being in n sets, where n is an integer greater than unity. The gates of the jth set, where j is in the range of 1 to n, are longer in the transfer direction than the gates of the kth set, which precede the gates of the jth set. The kth set of gates are driven between first and second potential levels of which the first potential level is of the first polarity relative to said second potential level, and the jth set of gates are driven between third and fourth potential levels of which the third potential level is of the first polarity relative to the fourth potential level and is of a second polarity relative to the first potential level.

  • Patent number: 4855724
Abstract: A matrixed display device comprises a plurality of monochrome optical bodies arranged in a matrix of intersecting horizontal rows and vertical columns and an optical bandpass filter element associated with each such body. The filter elements are in first, second and third arrays, passing red light, green light and blue light respectively. In each row and column of the matrix, a filter element of one of the three arrays is located between filter elements of the other two arrays. With this arrangement of filter elements, a color pixel can be formed by selectively stimulating first and second monochrome optical bodies that are adjacent each other in a first row of the matrix and a third monochrome optical body that is in a row adjacent the first row and is in the same column as one of the first and second optical bodies.
