    Abstract: An apparatus includes a gap adjuster that adjusts a gap in a vertical direction between a recording head and a supporting surface for supporting a medium. The gap adjuster adjusts the gap by engagement of a carriage, a slide member, and a cam member that is provided therebetween and has a stepped portion with an alternate-arrangement structure in a width direction. The gap adjuster includes a coil spring that urges the carriage with respect to the slide member in the direction that is the opposite of the transportation direction. A slide contact member is provided on an end of the coil spring.

A relationship between a temperature of the temperature control portion and the dimension of the cut ceramic molded body is previously obtained, and based on the relationship, an appropriate temperature of the temperature control portion is calculated from the dimension of the ceramic molded body measured in the dimension measuring step, and the temperature control portion is controlled to the appropriate temperature in the molding step.

    Abstract: An artificial cartilage is provided whereby a fixed negative charged hydrogel has been infused within a restrictive swelling network, which limits and restricts the thickness of the artificial cartilage. At least 60% of the volume of the artificial cartilage is composed of the restricted and swollen hydrogel. The restrictive swelling network restricts the hydrogel to swell not more than 10% with respect to its maximum swelling capacity, i.e. a swelling capacity to swell 10-fold more is retained. The hydrogel within the restrictive swelling network has an equilibrium stiffness between 0.5 and 2 MPa to resist external loads applied to the top surface layer or the bottom surface layer of the artificial cartilage. The hydrogel has a fixed negative charge density of ?0.17 to ?0.23 mEg/ml and is capable of swelling between 2-15 times compared to the volume of the hydrogel without being restricted.

The solubilized notochordal cell matrix powder is capable of stimulating native or stem cells to proliferate and produce a significant increase in glycosaminoglycans and type-II collagen matrix. Embodiments of the invention can be used as a lubricant with regenerative potential for application in the osteoarthritic joint.
