Publication number: 20110057646Abstract: There is provided a position sensing apparatus when a non-orbital movable truck moves over a spherical surface, a cylindrical surface, or a flat surface, which is capable of position sensing even when, e.g., the non-orbital movable truck circumferentially moves over the spherical surface or the cylindrical surface to be hidden from the position sensing apparatus. A second linear encoder is disposed which includes a wire in a main body thereof to output an amount by which the wire is withdrawn as an encoder value. The tip of the wire of the second linear encoder is fixed to a position at the non-orbital movable truck to which the tip of the wire of a linear encoder is fixed. From an amount by which the wire of the linear encoder is withdrawn and the amount by which the wire of the second linear encoder is withdrawn, the position of the non-orbital movable truck is calculated in a calculation device.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2010Publication date: March 10, 2011Inventors: Yosuke Takatori, Yutaka Kometani, Kenichi Otani, Masafumi Imai, Ryoetsu Fujiwara

Publication number: 20090240108Abstract: A capsule endoscope captures an image from an imaging field as it travels through a tract of a patient and, at the same time, measures subject distances to multiple points in the imaging field. The capsule endoscope sends the captured image and information on the multi-point distances wirelessly to a data transceiver that the patient carries about. With reference to the multi-point distance information, a check zone of a limited distance range is determined in the imaging field, and the check zone is divided into small blocks. Image characteristic values are extracted from image data of each individual small block, and compared with the image characteristic values of other small blocks, to examine similarity between the small blocks. Those small blocks which are less similar to other small blocks are considered to constitute an area of concern, such as a lesion.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2009Publication date: September 24, 2009Applicant: FUJIFILM CorporationInventors: Kunimasa SHIMIZU, Kenichi OTANI, Naoto KINJO

Publication number: 20090227837Abstract: A capsule endoscope is swallowed by a patient, to capture images from inner wall surfaces of patient's digestive tract, while detecting imaging positions of the capsule endoscope. A doctor observes the images captured by the capsule endoscope, to select an aimed point image that contains a portion suspected of a lesion, and some images that represent pass points on an insertion route of a balloon endoscope. While a probing tip of the balloon endoscope is being inserted into the patient for the sake of thorough examination of the suspected portion, a degree of similarity between an image captured by the balloon endoscope and an image of a destination point, which is one of the pass points and the aimed point, is detected to judge by the similarity whether the probing tip has reached the destination point or not. So the doctor can get the probing tip to the aimed point easily.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 4, 2009Publication date: September 10, 2009Applicant: FUJIFILM CorporationInventors: Kunimasa SHIMIZU, Kenichi OTANI, Naoto KINJO

Publication number: 20060234276Abstract: The present invention relates generally to the field of diabetes. More particularly, it concerns the identification of genes responsible for NIDDM1 for use in diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The present invention demonstrates that the NIDDM1 locus is, in fact, the calpain 10 gene. The invention further relates to the discovery that analysis of mutations in calpain genes and gene products can be diagnostic for type 2 diabetes. The invention also contemplates methods of treating diabetes in view of the fact that calpain mutations can cause diabetes. Further, the invention relates to novel polynucleotides of the NIDDM1 locus and polypeptides encoded by such polynucleotides.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2006Publication date: October 19, 2006Inventors: Kenneth Polonsky, Yukio Horikawa, Naohisa Oda, Nancy Cox, Seamus Sreenan, Yun-Ping Zhou, Kenichi Otani, Craig Hanis, Graeme Bell
