  • Publication number: 20150078748
Abstract: A wavelength selective switch includes a wavelength dispersive element that divides a beam input from an input port, a beam director that deflects a wavelength component, and a free space optical system that optically couple a input/output unit, the wavelength dispersive element, and the beam director. The free space optical system converts a shape of the beam such that a size extending in a second plane is relatively smaller than a size extending in a first plane, and to have a long axis and a short axis in a third plane. The long axis is inclined with respect to the first direction. The beam director includes a beam directing region in which a plurality of beam directing elements are arranged. The beam directing region deflects the respective wavelength components toward the predetermined output port. The beam directing region is provided to correspond to the shape of the beam.

  • Patent number: 7212717
Abstract: The present invention relates to an optical fiber having a configuration which enables utilization of nonlinear phenomena in the near-infrared region. The optical fiber is directed to a holey fiber having a core region extending along a predetermined axis and a cladding region with plural holes arranged along the core region. The plural holes are arranged to constitute plural layers about the core region in the cross-section orthogonal to the predetermined axis. The three holes constituting the first layer (the innermost layer) closest to the core region correspond to three vertexes from among the six vertexes of a regular hexagon and are placed such that the arrangement of the three holes has three-fold rotational symmetry. The optical fiber enables utilization of nonlinear phenomena in the near-infrared region, by properly adjusting the hole diameter d and the pitch L between adjacent holes from among the holes constituting a single layer.

  • Patent number: 7110636
Abstract: The inclination of a reflecting surface of a mirror is adjusted such that light outputted from an input optical fiber is reflected by the mirror so as to be fed into an output optical fiber. The normal direction of the reflecting surface of the mirror vibrates about a predetermined direction at a predetermined frequency. A part of the light propagating through the output optical fiber is taken out by a light-branching part, so as to be received by a photodiode, whereby an electric signal having a value corresponding to thus received quantity of light is outputted from a detection circuit. Whether or not the electric signal includes a component of the predetermined frequency or whether the component is strong or weak is detected, whereby whether or not there is optical coupling from the input optical fiber to the output optical fiber or the extent thereof is determined.
