    Abstract: Moldable polyester resins having high melt-phase stability and which form substantially no thermal decomposition products during melt-phase processing have a carboxyl end group concentration of no greater than 40 milliequivalent/kg, and are the reaction product of (a) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its ester-forming derivative, (b) an aliphatic dihydroxy compound having 2 to 8 carbon atoms, and (c) an ester-forming comonomer having the general formula (I):HO--R--O--A--O--R--OH (I)wherein A represents a divalent organic radical having at least one aromatic ring, R represents a divalent organic radical selected from the group consisting of aliphatic hydrocarbon groups and polyoxyalkylene groups each having 2 to 8 carbon atoms. The ester-forming comonomer is incorporated into the polyester resin chain in an amount between 0.01 to 7 molar %, based on the aromatic dicarboxylic acid.

    Abstract: An improved polyester exhibiting melt anisotropy and excellent thermal stability is provided which consists essentially of the structural units (I) to (III) wherein: ##STR1## wherein Ar.sub.1 is 1,4-phenylene, Ar.sub.2 is a mixed system of 2,6-naphthalene and 2,7-naphthalene, and Ar.sub.3 is an aromatic ring containing 6 or more carbon atoms, the unit (I) accounting for 15 to 90 mole percent and the unit (II) for 20 to 70 mole percent of the total amount of the structural units, and the percentage of 2,7-naphthalene to the total amount of Ar.sub.2 in the unit (II) being between 10 and 90 mole percent.

    Abstract: Polyester film has a thickness of between 10 to 500 .mu.m and exhibits excellent tear strength retention against thermal history conditions. The film is prepared from a resin composition which includes 100 parts by weight of a polyester consisting essentially of alkylene terephthalate groups as the main recurring units in the polymer chain and between 0.1 to 5 parts by weight of a bisoxazoline compound incorporated thereinto. The film is usefully employed as a sterilizing bag or as a food-packaging material and can be laminated to anther sheet of film or to paper.

    Abstract: A process for producing a transparent film includes forming a melt from a copolyester having structural units represented by the following formulas I and II, respectively: ##STR1## wherein R groups may be the same or different from each other are each selected from the group consisting of--CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CH--CH.sub.2 --, ##STR2## and the molar fraction ratio of the structural units of formula II to the total structural units of formulas I and II is between 0.02 to 0.020, which a melt of the copolyester is formed into a film, rapidly quenched to solidify the copolyester and impart low crystallinity thereto. The solidified film is aged at a temperature of 60 degree centigrade or below, and then heat-treated at a temperature between the glass transition point (Tg) of the copolyester and no greater than 2.degree. C. below the melting point of the copolyester minus 2.

    Abstract: A copolyester resin is the polycondensation reaction product of (a) terephthalic acid or a dialkyl terephthalate, (b) at least one alkylene glycol having 2 to 8 carbon atoms, and (c) a dimer diol having as a main component a compound of the following formula (1): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 through R.sub.4 are each unsaturated linear organic groups such that the total number of carbon atoms of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is between 22 to 34. Preferably, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which may be the same or different, each represent an alkyl group, and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, which may be the same or different, each represent an alkylene group. The resin of the present invention may be melt-blended with a filler material and formed into a film by suitable film-forming techniques. The film is especially advantageous due to its heat-sealing and mechanical properties.

    Abstract: A novel polyester is provided which forms an anisotropic melt phase in combination with good heat resistance and melt-processability. The polyester is formed from a combination of appropriate concentrations of four essential constituent units (as described). In a particularly preferred embodiment the polyester is derived from p-acetoxybenzoic acid, 4,4'-diacetoxydiphenyl, 2,2-propylidenebis(1,4-phenylene), and terephthalic acid. The resulting polyester is well suited to injection molding to form superior three-dimensional articles, fibers and films.
