  • Publication number: 20040250668
Abstract: A process for cutting a sheet glass includes a first step of forming a groove conformed to a cutting shape in one surface of a sheet glass by a water jet, and a second step of forming a groove in the other surface of the sheet glass by a water jet to reach the groove, which are carried out sequentially, thereby cutting the sheet glass. Thus, the sheet glass can be cut by the water jets, while preventing occurrence of breaking or cranking, without need for a post-processing.

  • Patent number: 6606039
Abstract: A Huffman encoder and a method for Huffman encoding in which a data compression rate can be easily changed and a recording medium having a program for a Huffman encoding process recorded thereon. A quantizer quantizes DCT coefficients output by a DCT device to output quantized DCT coefficients. A comparator judges a quantized DCT coefficient to be an invalid coefficient when the absolute value of the DCT coefficient is equal to or smaller than a threshold and judges the quantized DCT coefficient to be a valid coefficient when the absolute value of the DCT coefficient is greater than the threshold. A run length counter counts the number of consecutive invalid coefficients to output run lengths and outputs valid coefficients. An encoder performs encoding based on the valid coefficients and the run lengths to output encoded data.

  • Patent number: 5496422
Abstract: The corrosion resistance inherent in stainless steel is further improved by a cladding layer provided on the surface thereof. The cladding layer is formed of a coating material which is applied onto the surface of the stainless steel and, then, burnt to be fused by laser beams. The coating material contains a larger amount of Cr than that of the stainless steel. The thus fused material and a fused portion of the stainless steel are mixed with each other to form the cladding layer of remarkable corrosion resistance due to a larger amount of Cr contained therein. The formation of the cladding layer on the inner surface of a small diameter pipe is enabled by a coating film shaping device which has a jig for shaping the applied material into a film of a uniform thickness and by a laser irradiation torch which has an arrangement for emitting the laser means radially outward from the inside of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5426278
Abstract: A laser irradiating torch device is used to apply corrosion resistant coating or other coatings to an inner surface of small diameter piping. The torch device consists basically of a torch body disposed in the rearward end of the torch device; a revolving torch head disposed in the forward end of the torch device which revolves around the central axis of the torch device; and a driving device to rotate the torch head disposed in the rearward end. A laser beam generated outside the torch device is transmitted to the torch head in an optical fiber disposed, longitudinally through the central axis, and the focal point of the laser beam can be adjusted with a lens system whose location can be adjusted in the axial direction. The transmitted laser beam is reflected radially out of the torch device with a reflection mirror, and the lens system is adjusted so that the laser beam is focused near the inner surface of the piping.
