  • Publication number: 20060187762
Abstract: To make it possible by a simple constitution to perform a forcible rotation drive by a correction drive pulse and obtain a demagnetization effect. In a case where a control circuit has judged on the basis of a detection signal from a rotation detection circuit 106 that a motor has not rotated by a drive by a 1st normal drive pulse of a predetermined energy, after it has forcibly rotation-driven the motor by a correction drive pulse whose energy is larger than the 1st normal drive pulse, it rotation-drives the motor by a 2nd normal drive pulse whose polarity differs from the correction drive pulse and whose energy is larger than the 1st normal drive pulse.

  • Publication number: 20060080483
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a disk device and a method of controlling the device which is capable of suppressing peak current, even for serial communication, that is required when initiating rotation of a spindle motor down to a level equivalent to that of parallel communication, without prolonging elapsed time before reaching the steady rotation speed. In one embodiment, an HDD includes a serial communication circuit which executes serial communication with a host, an SPM which rotates a disk, an HDC/MPU which controls the SPM and the serial communication circuit. The HDC/MPU, after shutting down the serial communication circuit once, starts up the serial communication circuit again when rotation speed of the SPM reached the specified standard value, and establishes serial communication with the host by means of the serial communication circuit.

  • Publication number: 20060023344
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide techniques to inspect the track pitch of a magnetic disk. In one embodiment, the track pitch is inspected using the servo information that was written onto the magnetic disk. A PES gain is set to be PG0. A head is moved to a position K near the position where control is to switch between MPES and SPES, and then MPES and SPES are calculated using reproduced burst signals and PG0. The quantity of change in the inspection HSP which is a half-servo pitch of an inspection-related burst pattern, with respect to an ideal half-servo pitch, is detected by calculating PES?, the difference between the MPES and SPES at position K. The track pitch is thus judged whether it is abnormal.

  • Publication number: 20050105124
Abstract: Printer 1 monitors the operating status of the CPU, judges that the compression process execution condition is satisfied when no printing process is being executed, or when executing the compression process simultaneously while a portion of the printing process is being executed does not meaningfully reduces the speed of printing process, compresses uncompressed bitmap data after printing process, and stores it on a hard disk. Since printer 1 executes compression using the spare time during the printing process, it does not cause any delay in the printing process due to overlapping of the printing process and the compression process.

  • Patent number: 6891692
Abstract: A position control system for a magnetic head improves servo tracking characteristics in a low frequency range without impairing the stability of seek operations. The position control system is equipped with two integrators: a first integrator 43 and second integrator 45. The gain K3? of the second integrator 45 is set larger than the gain K3 of the first integrator 43. The first integrator 43 plays the role of offsetting the bias force acting on the magnetic head while the second integrator 45 plays the role of improving the servo tracking characteristics in the low frequency range.

  • Publication number: 20040210321
Abstract: In an apparatus to be controlled 20 such as a USB-compatible peripheral device connected to a controlling apparatus such as a personal computer, when a specification change is detected such as a change in the apparatus to be controlled 20 itself and a change in the connection situation of an attached device 30 (S201: YES), identification information corresponding to the changed specification is extracted (S205) and the extracted identification information is set as identification information to be transmitted to the controlling apparatus 10 (S206). The identification information having been set is transmitted to the controlling apparatus 10, and the controlling apparatus 10 controls the apparatus to be controlled 20 having the changed specification, on the basis of the identification information.

  • Publication number: 20040201914
Abstract: The read/write offset between the read head and write head is used to determine the head width ratio between the read head width and write head width. • Publication number: 20040179285
Abstract: The data possessed by a parent hard disk drive is exported to a baby hard disk drive, which is connected to the parent hard disk drive, and thus, the baby hard disk drive executes by itself an optimization/inspection process including writing of servo information. A hard disk drive is reproduced by incorporating “DNA” used for reproduction into each hard disk drive, and then, by performing self-optimization and/or self-inspection by a new hard disk drive (baby hard disk drive), according to information supplied by a finished hard disk drive (parent hard disk drive).

  • Patent number: 6781922
Abstract: To reduce power consumption by operating hands only when needed. By operating to depress a mode changeover switch, a second hand is moved selectively to a hand operation start time setting mode (WAKE) position, a hand operation stop time setting mode (SLEEP) and an alarm time setting mode (ALARM) position. Hand operation stop time, hand operation start time and alarm time are set by setting an hour/minute hand to desired time by operating to depress a time setting switch in a state in which the second hand is disposed at the respective setting mode positions. When the hand setting stop time arrives, operation of the time hands is stopped and when the hand operation start time arrives, the time hands are fed fast to regular time and thereafter, normal time indicating operation is carried out.

  • Publication number: 20040120220
Abstract: To provide a hand position detecting device capable of suppressing the rotation of hand wheels necessary to detect the initial positions of the hand wheels to a minimum, also, an electronic timepiece provided with this device. In a hand position detecting device of a hand position setting device of an electronic timepiece, light from a light-emitting device is made to obliquely hit reflective surface on an hour wheel via an aperture for passage of incident light when a minute wheel and the hour wheel reach given positions, the aperture being in the minute wheel. Reflected light Br produced by oblique reflection of the incident light at the reflective surface is detected by a light-receiving device via an aperture for passage of reflected light, the aperture being in the minute wheel.

  • Publication number: 20040119751
Abstract: The operating panel unit of the MFP modifies the screen layout by adjusting the spacing between the groups of key images of the size variable key, basic keys and application keys when the size of the key image of the size variable key is modified. If it is impossible to display all the key images simultaneously on the screen, the size of the key image is reduced to modify the screen layout. As an alternative, the mode for the application keys is changed from the mode of displaying all the constitutional keys to the mode of the scroll display to change the screen layout. Consequently, the size of a specific operating key can be arbitrarily modified and the layout of other operating keys is automatically modified in a data input device where a touch panel is provided on its display.
