  • Patent number: 6940939
Abstract: A photocatalytic substance having the properties of an n-type semiconductor is deposited on a surface of a metal base made of a stainless steel or Inconel. When necessary, the hydrogen concentration of the reactor water is increased. A current produced by the photocatalytic substance when the same is irradiated with light or radioactive rays in a nuclear reactor flows through the metal base to reduce corrosion current. When necessary, the photocatalytic substance is provided on its surface with at least one of Pt, Rh, Ru and Pd.

  • Publication number: 20050117690
Abstract: A method for controlling water quality in a nuclear reactor comprises a first and second steps. The first step is to make an amount of iron, which is carried into the nuclear reactor and corrosively eluted from structural material within the nuclear reactor into reactor water, at least twice as much as any one of an amount of nickel, which is carried into the nuclear reactor, and an amount of nickel, which is generated in the nuclear reactor. The second step is to limit an upper limit of concentration value of iron in system water supplied into the nuclear reactor to up to 0.10 ppb.

  • Patent number: 6871688
Abstract: Fluid pressure of a first fluid chamber of a driving means, which acts as a back pressure, is monitored by a monitoring means when a core pin is driven by the driving means in an inserting direction before injection of a molten material into a cavity of a die arrangement. When the monitored fluid pressure of the first fluid chamber exhibits abnormal behavior that is different from normal behavior observed during a normal period, the monitoring means controls the driving means to stop the driving of the core pin in the inserting direction.

  • Patent number: 6769871
Abstract: The blood pump according to the present invention comprises a casing having a blood inlet and a blood outlet, and an impeller for circulating blood by rotating inside the casing, wherein both the casing's and the impeller's surfaces in contact with blood are formed of a biocompatible metal, and onto the surfaces in contact with blood a coating film of a hemocompatible material comprising a phospholipid polymer is formed. According to the present invention, the blood pump effectively suppresses the development of thrombi without activating blood coagulation factors such as thrombocites (blood platelets) in the blood, thanks to a coating film of a hemocompatible material made of a phospholipid polymer being formed onto the surfaces in contact with blood of the casing and the impeller composing the main part of the blood pump.

  • Patent number: 6659600
Abstract: The present invention provides an inkjet recording head cartridge and an inkjet recording apparatus that have a simple structure and high reliability. Since individual flow passages in which ink emission orifices are formed are communicated directly with a rectangular ink supply chamber, it is prevented that a bubble of such a size as to cause printing defects rises through an ink supply chamber and blocks the individual flow passages. Also, since ink heated within the ink supply chamber is moved upward to the ink tank chamber by convection and grows an air lump sealed beforehand, it is prevented that a bubble will grow in the ink supply chamber. Furthermore, by allocating a large cross-sectional area to the ink supply chamber, it is prevented that meniscus oscillation of the ink emission orifices is amplified by pressure oscillation caused by ink emission and causes a printing defect. Therefore, reliable printing can be performed with a simple construction.

  • Patent number: 6552980
Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide a method of setting power for a reproducing beam applied to a rotating magneto-optical disc to reproduce data signals therefrom in the magnetically induced super resolution (MSR) mode, thereby to heat the signal-recording layer of the disc sufficiently even if the disc warps and to attain an adequate MSR effect. Another object of the invention is to provide a method of reproducing data from such a magneto-optical disc. To set power for the reproducing laser beam, calibration is carried out for at least two points on the radius of the magneto-optical disc, and optimal powers for these points are calculated. From the optimal powers, the power for the reproducing beam is calculated by curvilinear approximation and set for a given position on the magneto-optical disc. The margin of power for the reproducing beam can be thereby increased.
