  • Publication number: 20230183633
Abstract: An ocean iron fertilization (OIF) method and system for electrochemically controlled release of iron in an ocean to stimulate growth of phytoplankton to increase CO2 sequestration by the ocean. The system includes a cathode submerged or floating in the ocean; an iron or iron-producing anode submerged or floating in the ocean spaced apart from the cathode; and a power supply unit connected to the cathode and the anode. The power supply unit drives electric current between the cathode and the anode such the anode generates oxygen (O2) and ferrous iron through electrolysis to be released in the ocean, and the cathode produces hydrogen (H2) and hydroxide (OH—) species through an electrochemical reaction at the cathode.

  • Publication number: 20220333330
Abstract: Basement shoring apparatus has a modular panel having a panel body having a plurality of parallel drill rod shafts therethrough. Each drill rod shaft has a respective drill rod rotatably engaged therein. Each drill rod extends from a lower edge of the panel body and has a respective auger or cutting head attached at a distal end thereof. Each drill rod is connectable via an upper edge of the panel body for turning. Adjacent drill rods extend to different extent such that blades of respective augers overlap adjacently. As such, modular panel can be drilled into the ground to form shoring wall.

  • Patent number: 11470843
Abstract: The present disclosure generally provides topically applicable insect repelling compositions, and in some embodiments, topically applicable insect repelling and UV protecting compositions. The compositions comprise a polymerization product of a polyol, a diisocyanate and at least one insect-repelling compound. The resulting polymers advantageously bond superficially to skin or hair, thereby localizing repellents and preventing systemic absorption. While not being bound by theory, it is believed that the localization of repellents to the surface of the skin renders them safer, wherein such repellents are not vaporized and do not have a disagreeable odor. The repellents advantageously interact with tactile insect activity, thereby preventing parasitic activity, such as drawing blood or the communication of pathogens.

  • Patent number: 11391493
Abstract: A space-stable thin film composite coating is provided that exhibits high IR emittance properties similar to OSR mirrors, and which is thin enough to be applied to a flexible substrate. The composite coating can include hundreds of alternating layers of aluminum oxide and silicon dioxide vacuum deposited to individual layer thickness of about 150 Angstroms and 50 Angstroms, respectively. The composite coating can be attached to substrates having complex geometries, for example, at various points during integration and production of hardware. The thin film can increase thermal design efficiency, reduce radiator mass and costs, and reduce production time-frames by eliminating the complexity of OSR mirror bonding.

  • Patent number: 11262724
Abstract: The low profile of the flexible tooling system disclosed allows for flexible tooling to be added to nearly all CNC machines with an accommodating z-axis height and allows easier relocation of the system from one CNC machine to another. The system includes one or more pods, each of the pods of the system replacing the function of four independent actuators of earlier systems but operating with a shared mechanical frame. Arranging the mechanism into groups of four allows for greater density of part support spacing, minimizes cable requirements, and allows for air, vacuum, and vacuum sensor requirements be localized on each pod. The pods allow for part supports to be spaced as close as 6? in the x and y axis. An increased variable position assembly density allows for greater flexibility to hold complicated parts.

  • Patent number: 11262489
Abstract: A method of making a multi-layer coating on a substrate is provided and involves applying a mirror coating to a substrate then spraying a silicate topcoat onto the mirror coating. Applying the mirror coating can involve applying a reflective material to the substrate to form a reflective layer and applying an oxide layer to the reflective layer to form the mirror coating. The oxide layer can be made of one or more oxide layers, and each of the one or more oxide layers can include aluminum oxide, silicon oxide, or a combination thereof. The multi-layer coating provides increased IR emittance and decreased solar absorptance relative to conventional thermal control coatings.
