    Abstract: A thermally tunable optical fiber device comprises a length of optical fiber including a device disposed within a microcapillary heater. The microcapillary heater can include a thin film resistive heater. The fiber itself can optionally include a thin film resistive heater overlying the device, and a plurality of nested microcapillary tubes can optionally provide a plurality of successive concentric heaters overlying the device. The heaters films can be films with uniform, tapered or periodically varying thickness. The heaters can be single layer or multiple layer. Multiple layer films can be superimposed with intervening insulating layers or plural layers can be formed on different angular regions of the microcapillary. Thus one can provide virtually any desired temperature versus length profile along the fiber device.

In an additional embodiment of the present invention, a golf ball has a surface formed with a plurality of non-circular, multi-sided shaped dimples and interposed lands having substantially consistent widths between adjacent dimples. In yet another alternative embodiment of the present invention, an exemplary method of making a golf ball having a dimpled surface is provided. The process comprises generating an amorphous pattern of non-circular shaped dimples and then transferring the amorphous pattern to the surface of the golf ball.

    Abstract: The present invention relates three-dimensional sheet materials which resist nesting of superimposed layers into one another. More particularly, the present invention provides a three-dimensional, nesting-resistant sheet material having a first side and a second side. The first side comprises at least one region having a plurality of spaced three-dimensional protrusions extending outwardly from the first side which are preferably unitarily formed from the sheet material. To provide the nesting-resistant advantages of the present invention, the protrusions form an amorphous pattern of a plurality of different two-dimensional geometrical shapes. Preferably, the second side comprises a plurality of spaced, three-dimensional hollow depressions corresponding to the protrusions, such that the protrusions are hollow. Of particular interest for certain applications, such as a carrier for an adhesive, the protrusions are separated by an interconnected network of three-dimensional spaces between adjacent protrusions.

    Abstract: Wrapping apparatus for wrapping an object such as an agricultural bale with stretched film has a powered stretch film dispenser mounted to a swing arm disposed above a bale support; the swing arm is connected to a drive unit by which the arm is swung causing the dispenser to execute continuous circular motion about a bale on the bale support, the latter being operable to spin the bale slowly about an axis in the plane of motion of the dispenser. The dispenser derives power for positively dispensing wrapping film from the arm drive unit by way of a mechanical drive transmission. In use, turns of film are wrapped in overlapping, angularly displaced fashion about the bale and the rate at which film is dispensed always bears a fixed relationship to the speed of the drive unit, the angular speed of the swing arm and the rate at which turns are wrapped around the bale.

As such, airlays will be able to handle longer fiber lengths which conventional airlay equipment is unable to handle or satisfactorily open up. Further, an improved process for doffing fiber from a airlay machine and particularly centrifugally doffing fiber from a carding machine.

In a preferred embodiment, the flexible storage bag includes at least one auxiliary venting opening located remotely from the primary opening and having an auxiliary closure means for sealing the auxiliary opening.
