  • Publication number: 20140334137
Abstract: A solid state light sheet and method of fabricating the sheet are disclosed. In one embodiment, bare LED chips have top and bottom electrodes, where the bottom electrode is a large reflective electrode. The bottom electrodes of an array of LEDs (e.g., greater than 1,000 LEDs) are bonded to an array of electrodes formed on a flexible bottom substrate. Conductive traces are formed on the bottom substrate connected to the electrodes. A transparent top substrate having conductors is then laminated over the bottom substrate. Various ways to connect the LEDs in series are described along with many embodiments. The light sheets may be formed to emit light from opposite surfaces of the light sheet, enabling it to be used in a hanging fixture to illuminate the ceiling as well as the floor.

  • Patent number: 8834341
Abstract: A method of determining an optimal coil shape for use in magnetic stimulation includes identifying a stimulation location and a constraint at the stimulation location. A first electromagnetic effect at the stimulation location is determined. The first electromagnetic effect is induced by a first electrical quantity assigned to a first current element at a first current element location with a first orientation. A second electromagnetic effect at the stimulation location is also determined. The second electromagnetic effect is induced by a second electrical quantity assigned to a second current element at the first current element location with a second orientation. Based on the first electromagnetic effect and the second electromagnetic effect, an optimal orientation of a current element at the first current element location is determined. The optimal orientation is such that the constraint is satisfied. Repeating the process at a plurality of locations yields the optimal coil shape.

  • Patent number: 8721385
Abstract: This method of interconnection utilizes aesthetic features of the toy itself to alloy interconnection in a safe and secure way, without the use of snaps and pins that can cause a safety hazard to young children. The proposed method also allows for interconnection of multiple toys to create a toy chain as well as an adapter that allows for toys that embody this feature to be connected to clothing, back packs, shoes as an accessory. By extension of this basic interconnection method, any two or more objects can be connected this same way.

  • Publication number: 20140096493
Abstract: A V-panel filter apparatus and method of construction are provided. The method includes flowing curable potting material into a recess portion of an end cap, positioning first end edge surfaces of first and second filter panels into the contained potting material, and curing the potting material with the first and second filter panels positioned to diverge away from the end cap to define a V-shaped configuration. The method may include flowing curable potting material into a recess portion of a first side plate, positioning edge surfaces of the first and second filter panels into the contained potting material, and curing the potting material. Such steps may be repeated in relation to a second side plate and a header member. By utilizing a pot-and-place sealing methodology, improved seal interfaces are realized. Stability and construction advantages may be provided by snap-fit features of the header member and first and second side plates.

  • Publication number: 20140049971
Abstract: A lighting assembly includes a base assembly configured to fit into a conventional light bulb socket. A separate bulb assembly is configured to interface with the base assembly, making the bulb and base assemblies selectively separable from one another. In some instances, a module configured to be connected to the base assembly provides a convenient means for adding or supplementing functionality to the lighting assembly. At least in some cases, the module is configured to take the place of the bulb assembly on the base assembly, and is configured to provide a separate interface to which the bulb assembly is coupled, such that the module is disposed intermediate the base assembly and the bulb assembly. In some instances, functionality associated with a lighting element of the lighting assembly is included in the base assembly or the bulb assembly.

  • Patent number: 8618698
Abstract: A modular multilevel converter system. The system includes a plurality of series connected two-terminal M2LC subsystems and a control system module. The two-terminal M2LC subsystems are arranged into at least two output phase modules. A first one of the output phase modules defines a total value of inductance and includes a positive arm and a negative arm. The control system module is configured to apply selectively reassigned modulated switch functions to only one of the following at a given instance of time: the two-terminal M2LC subsystems of the positive arm of the first one of the output phase modules or the two-terminal M2LC subsystems of the negative arm of the first one of the output phase modules. The selective reassigning of the modulated switch functions forces charge balance of the individual capacitors of the series connected two-terminal M2LC subsystems at a predetermined rate.
